Why? Just because I met a really good squad.
I have been away from the vanilla maps for a real long time, ever since Special Force came out. In fact, I must admit that much of my combat skills and squad experience come from Special Force. I never see this until one day, I took the time to check out my ID at www.bf2player.com.
Just now, I am returning from "Strike at Karkand" map. Played it for the last 2 hours, very strange to me at the beginning. But as time went on, I get used to it again.
I met 4 real warm chaps. If I may, they are all senior than me in ranking. And we all went together, we don't know each other by the way. Underworld_* is a real good medic, he can keep himself alive and saved my life consecutively 3 times! Every time I was revived, I was killed right away but he managed to revive me again within that short 10 seconds, just miraculous! Our squad lead is *Morrow* he led us cross the bridge to the other side. In 1 round, he was remaining around the factory, waiting for us to respawn and join him. When we lost a CP, he swiftly went on and occupied an adjacent CP and this way, we managed to dominate that part of the map for something like 10 minutes or so before we lost to the MEC team, actually the server craashed I guess. And within that 10 minutes, I switched between Support and Anti-Tank. In one scenario, I killed a MEC adversary by the Anti-Tank rocket launcher like I fired it without exact visual then by slightly moving to the right, the rocket made its right turn and hit the poor chap just right behind the Anti-Tank turret which block him from my visual. By the way, I found the Anti-Tank launcher much more effective than that in Special Force, in Special Force the rocket lost its trajectory to gravity, I could be wrong though.
That is team work. I don't know if I can meet same quality of people on a public server again, but that was a prolific experience which I will recall from time to time. If only everyone would play to the fundamental principle of BF2's squad idea! However, I wonder how many out there are
