Battlefield 2 Q's (please forgive newb-ness)

I'm interested in getting BF2, (yeah it's been out a while but I was in need of comp upgrade. :)), but I have some questions before I buy, if someone wouldn't mind answering:

Is BF2 still popular/active at this point?

How stable is the game, on average?

Are the expansions (SF, euro) must buys or optional?

How demanding is the game requirements wise? (If it helps I have an AMD 3000+ cpu, 1 GB of ram, 256 MB Radeon X850 Pro, broadband internet.)

And lastly a minor thing I heard from a friend, is rebinding the controls still a PITA?

popular? yes.

stable? sure.

expansions? no need.

demanding? very. but nothing wrong with playing on low.

It's very much active.

Stability seems to change from machine to machine, but most often problems seem to be with computers running junk in the background either while playing or while installing patches. Keep your system tight and you shouldn't have any problems.

You're system should be able to handle it. Maybe not at max detail, but meh.

The expansions aren't required, but owning SF gives you access to more weapons and toys to bring into "normal" BF2. In my opinion, it's worth picking up just for the extra maps 'n bonus cool stuff... but some folks don't agree.

Rebinds are that bad. I've seen better and I've seen worse.

They aren't very good but you'll buy them anyway, you'll get a freebie though... EA downloader.

When you log on for the first time, the game will decide wether it likes you or not, if it does the game will run fine, if it doesn't it will crash to desktop (a lot) and run like your comp was made in 1999.

get the game, it's worth it.
there are some cool maps in the SF pack, and you'll need it to pick up some of the weapons you'll like. you may not play it that much though, i don't anymore. i wish that their maps were available in regular bf2. or, that i could use the hooks and ziplines on the other maps. i still haven't figured out why you couldn't just have it all lined up in the same boat.
i don't hae euro, and won't get it. i'm a little disappointed with the fact that i have already given 80 dollars of my money to EA, and they have changed the feel of the game about every month and a half. because of that, i'm still up in the air about 2142. we'll see. i think someone else needs my money

but i digress. it's still a fun game. probably worth getting. get it on sale if you can though

Yeah. I have got an AMD 3000+, 1 gig of ram and an nvidia 6600 and for some STRANGE reason, I can play on all high and no AA, but at 800x600 res.\
DONT ask me how, I have no fucxking clue.

yah i got Intel pentium 3.2GHz 512MB RAM and a RAdeon X300SE and play on medium with no lighting things or AA and it looks good enough its been running perfect until this gay 1.22 patch

the game has many many flaws
BUT it is still a LOT of fun
look how many people play it for serveral hundred hours
prettty good value for $30 !
your computer rig is fine
not on HIGHEST settings
but higher than average
and you will learn alot of good info in this FORUM

Stable? 70% of time....

Why? CTD and the connection bug, this is the buggiest game I have ever played btw.

Your settings are fine. Probably medium or so, not high for sure.
