    Some thoughts on Battlefield 2

Ok after a lot of playing BF2, I have come to various conclusions that do not really lead to much praise for the general gameplay.

    Vehicles.

No matter what the map, vehicles completely rape everything. On wake island you will get bombed at the base, shot out of a stinger launcher and mass-killed by an attack helo gunner. If you fire 2 stingers that get direct hits, the chopper will simply fly off for repairs by hovering over the pad for a few seconds then come back good as new, re-armed as well. This is the same with jets.
I fully appreciate that vehicles are a force to be reckoned with, but they are quite simply overpowered.
    This is why:
Vehicles suffer no performance loss from damage; they can keep going normally all the way back to base, where they will get repaired in practically an instant.
Aircraft can re-arm and repair without even touching the ground.
Jets have hugely exagerrated manouverability and can fly too slowly (and yes, I have flown solo for real).
Aircraft have far too good a target identification system, informing pilots, for example, whether a stinger launch site is manned or not.
Jets can re-arm so rediculously easily that they can perform several bombing sorties per minute.
Tanks can move their main turret too quickly.

Ok granted, BF2 is on the whole, an exagerrated game.
But I think the criticisms I have raised are perfectly valid, because whenever I look at an end-round score screen, the top three players are ALWAYS aviators and armour drivers. Surely this is not good because what that implies is that the way to get most points is simply to get to the vehicle first.
This is both true, and silly: I keep seeing people grouping up at the spawn points of vehicles, using various tactics (sigh) to ensure they are first to yield results from their use-key.
I can have a brilliant round as a sniper, only to find that the best sniper award goes to a "sniper" who only chose the said class so he could sprint to the helicopter quickly, which he then uses throughout the battle!

I think that the things I have mentioned really do have a severely negative impact on the game at the moment, but that if the unfair advantages are addressed, the experience would improve dramatically.

    What do you guys think?

Again - All I see in the final top-three is aviators and armour drivers.
The balancing is just wrong, regardless of how arcadey the game is supposed to be.

that depends on who you ask. Vehicles are SUPPOSED to be stronger then infantry alone face off.

          LOL!!! That is just hilarious.
Based on the original post it does not seem that the game is for you at all. The basis of the game is to use vehicles and infantry when appropriate to achieve the objective with teamwork. I'm not sure how long you have been playing BF2 or even if you have ever played BF1942, but your perceptions of the game lead me to believe that you just are frustrated by the type of game BF2 is. It is far too easy for you or anyone else to cry out that it is unbalanced in every way. Use the search button and type in "balanced" as your criteria and you will see hundreds of threads with ridiculous complaints. Bottom line is that no other game realeased in the last year offers as much diversity as BF2. You can fly, drive armor, drive a jeep, command, etc. I understand that the game is not for everyone, but it is what it is. If you dislike it so much the solution is quite simple, don't play it. I think people that have attitudes like yours actually hinder and negatively impact the game more than anything within the game in and of itself. People like you are never happy. The developers modify the kits, the damage taken by vehicles, the way the player moves, the collision meshes, the accuracy of kits and still nothing positive to say. My advice to you is to uninstall the game, delete all of your accounts and head off to this site:

That is actually a game that might extract some positive feedback from you, that is if any exists.

Good points Revolution, I see what you mean.
But I still get the impression that people who reply to my thread just are not using logic.
I have concluded that being first to enter a vehicle upon it's spawn is a direct route to getting in the top three players at the end of the round.
Now, is that right? Was that how BF was supposed to be?
Of course Battlefield is about variety in what you can do, but it surely isn't supposed to be like this!

Do you not agree that the vehicles seem illogically over-powered? Why couldn't they be more like real life, it doesn't require much imagination on Dice's part does it? Have 2 stingers cripple an aircraft for example?
            Something is definately wrong.

Agreed, apart from the top 3 spots comment. I'm usually sniping and I have managed to be in top spots sniping the whole round. But your comment is more or less on the money.

Umm well, you got a wrong conclusion. Many times on the ground I have a much higher score than guys in tanks, armor and jets, in the same round.....

Not to mention half the time a guy hops in a jet he goes and dies 30 seconds later....

No I don't, this game is MEANT to be an arcade game NOT a simulator. Two hits from an anti tank guy takes out a tank (if you have skill) and there is no limit to how many guys can be anti tank.

Helicopters have been massively nerfed, a 50. cal downs one in 5-7 seconds, its a joke, and there is never a shortage of 50 cals...

And jets....well the skilled jet pilots down other skilled jet pilots, the Essex AA is decent, and stingers work well against the JSF, we know the j-10 has problems...

You want real life? A stinger ain't gonna hit a plane thats flying very high and shooting LGMs or ATGs, a choppers gun would be able to rape anything or anyone from a maps distance away if not more so.
You really want that? A game where the air rapes even more so?
I think i'll spare you the whole list of bs but if some one wants a chopper or plane down that badly its gonna go down, just takes some team work and willingness to die a couple times.

But if you really want something closer to a combat SIM go check out joint operations.

Vehicles are only overpowered when in the hands of skilled users, against a team of lonewolfs with no teamwork.

Tank easily beaten by a few AT guys.

Chopper taken out easily by AA sites, jeep turrets, skilled AT users.

Planes Countered by Skilled Pilots... Or alternativly manning all of you availibe AA sites so even if the plane can take out 1 or 2 AA sites somebody will allways hit him.

In short what you lack is teamwork ... I pretty much only play with friends who are all on teamspeak as a group we can win any round anyway on the ground or with any vehicle.

I agree with the other reply, this game is not for you if you think the lonewolf sniper should be the best way to score gold.

Promptly uninstall your copy of BF2 and dont come back

Re: Some thoughts on Battlefield 2

                        In response to the OP.

I can also say that i really hate being vehicle raped constantly.
The problem is that infantry are just so innefective against armour, and the vehicles have an easy time of it, espc when they are 2 miles away whoring a base with infinite ammo.

Having said that, armour isnt the worst part. If anyone here has played wake, you will know what i mean when i say Z/J-10 carrier whorage. All they do is destroy the Phalanx, and their set. Even if they do get hurt, its back to base for repairs and back they go. Infantry should really have portable stingers for these kinds of threats. The emplaced ones are deathtraps, pilots will see you, fly out of draw distance, line up, and go guns ablazing before you can even lock.

And yes, the high score thing does **** me off, and i agree with the OP that vehicles now do offer an easy path too loads of points. All you need is to have some knowledge of using the tank, or APC, and your set. Infantry rarely staad a chance, as the guy will simply position himself so as too kill the most infantry at spawns. Its really annoying.

                          hmmm....

about the jet/heli and armour (although the armour dont attract the scenes of rabid teamkilling that the Airbourne vehicles do), i think it would be a revolutionary act to introduce a 'flight tickets' system to each of the vehicle types, whereby everyone starts with an equal amount but these are used up per entry into aircraft. Whoever has most tickets gets priority entry into jet/heli. If someone with 7 tickets gets into jet b4 someone with 9 tickets, then providing the 9 ticket holder presses the spawn key within 1-2 seconds, the 7 ticket guy gets ejected and 9 ticket guy gets in.....No arguements....Team killing should be default off at Jet/Heli Pads including Team c4 attacks when jet is in mid air and also including deaths from being skited across runway from as a result of jet blocking.

A system such as this would really improve the game.

I should know cos I am one of the biggest Jet Whoring Team Killing ****es around

IF YOU THINK BF2 IS BAD TRY PLAYING STARWARS BATTLEFRONT AND KILLING AN AT-AT WITH YOUR AT LAUNCHER THEN YOU WILL SEE A TANK IS EASY.

But why? Why not do the idea I suggested before, make it so m95 can't shoot through glass? That would cut down on alot of tking.

And even if your idea was implemented, people would STILL tk for vehicles even if they had less tickets....people are selfish....
