AVG anti-virus free update problem

The "balloon" poped up today saying that my AV is out of date. so i go to check for updates and then i got an error message. it says " Update progress could not be finished due to insufficient disk space or insufficient user rights". this has never happened to me before so i dont know whats wrong. I have about 41 gb of free hard drive space and i am the admin on my comp. so whats causing this problem?

Have you tried manually downloading the updated definitions and installing them?

no, but i dont want to have to always install them manually. ill try anyways

You can try doing it in safe mode aswell.

from the first link it says that you cant connect to the internet while in safe mode. is this true?

You can choose safe mode with networking from the boot menu and you can.

I suggest getting used to maually updating and getting rid of as many automated processes, as they just take up ram that could be used for gaming, and cause problems during gameplay.
