Please help me with the following problem.

I have got two PC's connected to the internet with a router. I have got two original BF2 cd's.

When i log onto a server with one PC and to another server with the other, you can play on both computers. When i try to log on to the same server with both pc's, the second pc to log on gets the message invalid cd.

What can i do about this. I have got two original cd's so i'm not hacking or something.

When you installed did you use the 2 different keys when prompted for them? The disc isn't what needs to be unique, the key is.

But you can't make up a CD key since the CD has the key on it, I though

I have the same prob though. dpitty613 let me borrow the game to DL on my comp and I bought SF so he can play on his comp. When we try to play multiplayer, I, or he, woud get the "CD key invalid" message. Is this coz we're using the same CD key? I'm going to buy myself the game in the next few mos so we can play, but is that the problem? Same CD key?

If both users are 'sharing' a router/gateway, then you're probably showing the target 'server' the SAME IP address, hence the error.

^the truth^ playing any game with two pc's on a router on the same server is impossible (be it BF, MOHAA, COD) you unfortunately won't get this to work. Because to "the outside world" you only have one IP adress, and your router splits incoming information between your two pc's. It is not possible to have two players with the same IP adress in a server (how would you identify them? what if your bro got an IP ban :evil: ?) the only workaround is to ask your ISP to provide you with another IP adress. I have aksed my provider this once, because i had the same problem. It is possible, but it will cost you. In my case i'd have to pay for having two connections, maybe you're lucky and your ISP will give you another IP for a couple of bucks.

Wow, that's not true at all. Right now I use roadrunner and a Linksys router.
Last night I had 3 computers on the same server, in the same squad. Only issue was VoIP not working with the other members of the squad.
But yeah, my best friend, wife, and me all play on the same servers on a pretty regular basis.

If I had to guess, I'd say you carried the same manual back and forth with you, so you accidentally put the same CD key on both installations.
Search around these forums for how to check your CD key in your registry.
If they're the same, change one to reflect the other key you bought.

Thanks jimtool. I did install the game on both pc's with the same cd. My friend came over to play and brought his own cd with him. So it's possible that installing with the same cd is the problem.

I'll try to uninstall and install with another cd to see if that will solve the problem.

Yea I can also say that it's probably the CD key or possibly not enough bandwidth. I have 3 gaming machines and play a bunch of games with friends/family. Some games are a bit more taxing on total bandwidth than others but you can do it.

If you're still having problems make sure you're using DHCP and not NAT. DHCP assigns different IP addresses to each machine in your network where as NAT does not.

Should be under your router's configuration where you entered in all the settings.

It isn't the cd itself that needs to be unique during installation.
It's the CD key on the back of the manual.
There's a FAQ relating to how to change it in your registry, so you don't
even have to uninstall.
