    Moongamers server woes.

So recently I have been venturing out from our clan server and playing with the pubbies on other servers. A bunch of guys I know mentioned Moongamers. I thought today I would check it out. I weep for what I experienced.

Let me start by simply saying I play the game to win. I don't play for points, I play for flags.

I found the Moongamers Karkand server ( I don't like Karkand, but oh well) and decided to check it out. I first got in as MEC. It is a 60 man server, so I was really looking forward to some good action. The map starts and I plant some C4 near the factory flag and set up camp to defend. 10 minutes into the round I have yet to see a single enemy even cross the river in an effort to take ANY of our flags. I decide to venture out and see what's going on. I grab an APC and head towards all the little red and blue dots. As I am approaching the Hotel flag I notice something odd. I cannot even count how many medic bags are on the ground.

As I get closer, I hear non-stop firing and explosions. As it turns out, both teams are at the one flag; all of them. Not one person anywhere else. I died from AT rockets before I could get to the front line. I spawned at the Hotel and was killed instantly by and APC. This happened 3 times. The fourth time I spawned it was in the alley on the other side and I was mowed down instantly by a US support lying in the middle of the alley camping that spawn point.

I spawned a few times here and there, almost always being killed by a tank, APC or support guy the moment I spawned. The round ended and the US team won by about 90 points and they never even took a flag. Not one.

The second round was going to be different I told myself. Boom,, rounds starts I'm, US this time. I create a squad and hop in an APC to make a rush for the factory flag at the back of the map. I notice one of my guys throwing C4 on the front of the APC. I did not shoot, just watched as he threw them all on me and then ran off. By now, there are 4 guys in the APC so when he turned around and tk'd all of us in one shot, he gets kicked. Wow....

Second spawn attempt. APC comes back, grab it and load up. Now I notice that all the guys in the APC are medics except me as the lone engy. I make the rush down the street towards the Hotel with a full APC. As I get to the first corner I begin to turn and everyone jumps out of the APC ! I stop and go into third person for a sec to see what's going on. I notice again that there are dozens and dozens of medic bags in the street. I being to look around and I bet out of 30 guys, only 6-7 of them were not medics including myself. The others except for me were support.

I tried in vain to get to the back flags or ANY flag other than the hotel but it was for naught. Every time I got past the hotel in a vehicle, I ran into 2 APC's and a tank sitting at the corner and died. I asked for UAV over and over and got nothing. Not one single player spotted the other vehicles.

I decided since this was a futile attempt to play the game, I would sit back and see what was going on.

8 out of 10 guys were medic. They were throwing bags all over the ground. Most of the were running around with paddles out. There was a non-stop dance of them getting shot by MEC and then 3 guys running up to revive only to have some die and yet even more medics run up to revive them. The chatter of game announcements from the medic bags being dropped was almost deafening.

I played 3 rounds on that server. In those 3 rounds, I must have seen 100 guys get revived. I must have seen 1,000 medic bags laying on the ground. I bet I heard more health kit chatter than I have heard in 6 months. In only one round did anyone EVER take another flag and it was only one. I was C4'd by my own team 3 times while in a vehicle. I was revived time after time only to die again the second I was revived, only to be revived yet again. Not once did the commander ever drop a UAV or spot anything. Not one of the guys on my team spotted anything.

I am saddened by the display I saw today. I would not even call it playing the game. I don't know what to call it. Perhaps "Medic Fest 2006"? In the end it was the most pathetic excuse for anything I have seen in I don't know how long. Maybe this is the future of the game. Maybe this is the norm and I have been sheltered on my clan server playing for the sheer fun of the chase, battle and defeat of the enemy force. I am ruined by the style of play I am accustomed to. A style where both teams try do actually fight and go back and forth to control a map. Where there aren’t dozens of medics running around with paddles out trying to revive the air.

I only wanted to tell this story because I suspect it is not a rare thing. I think perhaps I am a relic now and the future of the game (or what is left of it) lies in what I witnessed today. I weep for the future of BF2. I will take my game back by playing with my buddies and having fun. I won't be doing this on Moongamers.

Unfortunatly MoonGamers is one of those servers famous for being infested with noobs.

Should you display one ounce of skill you usually get kicked or banned.

Raging Rebels is also another of these type of servers.

Im just so glad over here in europe we have EA Official 64 man servers where anybody can play as they choose (exept tk, racism and language violations)

Poor United States players have to put up with all that clan server crap if they want a 64 man game.

Yeah, I used to play on Karkand 24/7 moongamers server but it plays more like Half Life 2 deathmatch game than a BF2 game and I can't stand it anymore. Those 24/6 servers, as I said, aren't BF2, they are HL2. . .and the only reason people play them instead of HL2 is so that they can get badges and ribbons and what not.

Everyone who plays on those servers plays for points. They want to get as many points as fast as possible and wasting time running for flags on the other end of the map doesn't make sense. Although, I have had the issue of running into guys protecting the way to the Suburbs with Vodnics.

Although, I have never had the problem of being TKed.

All that being said, I had one of my "favorite" moments on that server. I was MEC and had an APC on the street just east of hotel flag. A guy runs out across the street, one shot and he is dead. Immediately a medic comes running out and revives him, one shot, he and the medic are dead. Immediately 2 more medics coming running out, revive both of them, one shot, all 5 are dead. ANother medic runs out and revives the original guy, one shot and both are dead.

In less than 3 seconds I got 9 kills and 4 off of that one original guy. It was pretty funny. . .stupid karkand medics.

I find it refreshing to come accross the odd servers that are out there, it is just a differrent way to play the game. I can see it could be frustrating but no point in not making the most of it. I dont mean to sound like im great at the game cos im not but it makes me feel better about how i play when you come accross such servers.

i think that the map is more to blame than the server. karkand is a point whore wet dream. it HAS to play this way with current game dynamics and poitn balance. points = medics.

the more you play karkand the more frustrated you get. make yourself day off and play other maps [not sharqi and mashtur or wake]. or even better - play unranked. that last one is not going to happen, due to fact that point is THE most important thing in this game.

I play MoonGamers almost exclusively. But I play on their sister server 24/7 Gulf of Oman. I can't stand Karkand for exactly the same reasons you detailed in your post. I've had a lot better experiences on the Oman server than the Karkand one. Generally, you can get a good squad going for decent teamwork and, with the vast array of vehicles, I think it makes for a better experience.

During the weekends, the admins usually change up the maplist a bit to keep things interesting- which is nice if you want to play with the same guys (most of the people on there play there everyday) but on different maps, but I always find myself having a better overall game in Oman.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience on the Karkand server. Give this one a try sometime: MoonGamers Mostly Oman @ 64.34.181.14:16567

I strongly disagree with this statement. The players that get kicked/banned there are either racist, intentional TK'ers, disrespectful of the admins, or uncappable baserapers. The rules there are clearly stated in the MOTD as you load- and anyone who does not adhere to those simple rules gets the boot. I've yet to see them kick/ban for players being "too good."

Used to go there for a while. Stopped going for exactly that reason! There are other servers out there that are more enjoyable to play on. Each has its own characteristics. You'll find the right one someday...

"Medic Fest 2006" ROFL! Did you get there in time for the free tounge depressors give-a-way and the free colan exam?

Pretty funny the way you described it. I guess different people play different ways and may get enjoyment out of that particualr way. I personally play to win and cap flags, and most importly - Teamplay is first and foremost!

Yeah...instead of screaming "Mine?!" "Mine?!", they're screaming "First AID!!" "You need First Aid?!" "First Aid here!!"...

Seems like Karkand is a modern Marketing Class. Whoever sells the most medic bags, wins...
