I'm obssesive, I do virus scans and spyware scans daily with multiple programs (which don't interfere with each other), defragment maybe once every two weeks or once a month depending, use cccleaner and anything else I can find....I still CTD maybe once ever four playing hours or once daily.

Since that time i have no problem with bf2 or any other game/software
But defrag gives me lag when sound set to high in bf2 dont know why so i defrag only once a 4-5 months.

The first thing I did was install the full patch...... I never do incremental... never have. Yet, I still get the crash-to-desktop problem. Im re-patching it with full again now anyway.

Well once in awhile I still get a crash to DT either from installing a mod or just because of the EA Gremlins. All I have ever done is go explore the BF cd and click on install then modify then hit ok it will re-install the desktop icons and a few other things then I erase dt icons (no use) then play. I never have it happen again till the gremlins take over.

              :)

I did the new nvidia driver. I have not had a CTD since. I do get the freeze like it is going to do it but then it goes black and right back to the game. I was getting the join button crash also. that has stopped. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. It is funny how some things work for some and others not.

To my surprise, setting a 1.5gig pagefile and defragging my harddrive to hell and back got BF2 running again. I still have the sound glitch, but the game at least runs after that. Thanks!

A beta driver did the trick for me, no more ctd for almost a week!!

Yeah that pagefile makes a huge difference, doesnt it? I`ve set mine to 2048.
