I can't even get bf2 to run with this new patch

Early last night I downloaded patch 1.22 and patched bf2. I go to play and I launch bf2 and all seems great.....then my screen doesn't show the highly anticipated Ea games challenge everything slogan. It just sits there with a black screen for minutes til im finally fed up and shut down my computer via front power button. Early this morning I wake up and uninstall everything bf2, then reinstall bf2, then patched it again. Only to encounter the same problem. So far the only thing I can think of is that the new patch does'nt support my graphics card for some reason. Well here are my specs and if you have any suggestions tell me because I miss pwning noobs lol........

Specs:
AMD Athalon XP 3200+
2.21 GHz
512 Mb RAM
ATI Radeon 9550 256 Mb DDR

update your graphics drivers? just to rule that out ( and how on earth do you play on 512ram)

The problem could probably be the falty patch. As you can see half the topics in this forum are about how patch 1.22 is causing problems.

Well thankfully I reinstalled vanilla again no sf yet still weary on that. And I got it to work on patch 1.21 but im gonna wait til ea says something like updated 1.22 for people with crappy specs lol. But ya I guess I'll play on 1.21 servers til the issue is resolved.

Just something that I have ran across with the black screen with this game and some others....check your OS firewall.

With my ZoneAlarm Pro, I get a ZA popup asking me if it is ok for the program to access the internet after each patch (since the main exe has changed).

With a friends computer, his CA firewall, was not showing him a popup. It was like his machine was frozen at the black screen, yet I could access his system from the lan (pre-authorized with the firewall).

After he reboot, we checked his firewall and there was now a new entry for the 1.22 patched bf2.exe file. We OK'd that file and restarted BF2. It happened a second time...frozen black screen. Reboot and recheck the firewall, sure enough another entry for BF2 to act as a server. OK'd it and all worked well.

If you are getting the black screen problem, and you are behind a hardware firewall like a linksys router (or something similiar), then disable your OS firewall and start BF2 to see if it will work that way.

This may not be what is causing your problem, but just in case.

Cigar_Man is correct.
You need to change your Anti Virus or Firewall to allow BF2 on all ports.
Other wise you get the black screen.

I have an ASUS Av8 Deluxe mob
Athelon AMD 64 3200+ cpu
2 gigs of Corsair ddr RAMM
Radeon x800xl 250 mb

yet I still cannot play the game. I uninstalled and then re-install BF@. D/L'd the entire 372 mb 1.22 patch and get "modified version" BS. This is after I have gotten the "Verifing Client Data" finished and should be going into game. Instead I'm back at the Server List wondering WTF.

I have the same thing. Except I wait a few seconds and eventually the login screen comes up, but when I try to log in it says "There was an error listening on a socket."

YES I FIXED IT!
Instead of like fixing it I just went into McAfee security center, clicked BF2.exe and clicked "delete apllication rule"
I just ran BF2 and its all good YAY!

I haven't been playing bf2 long but i have got 10k points and after downloading the 1.22 patch i cannot get my game to work.:cry:
I created my 1st char name in error when i bought the game so i created a 2nd account of which i use regular now.
Only problem is my main has his password details remembered but when i go to log my main dude on it says p/w is incorrect.
I always use a select few p/w's so it cant be cuz i got it wrong, i have tried to reset p/w from gamespy ( think i did it correctly ) but still no joy..
Hope some1 can help as i am going crazy here atm
