Does Battlerecorder work? Please explain!

I have often asked a computer savvy friend about BF2 battlerecorder.

i ask "how does it work?" he says "it doesnt."

but, people here talk about hackers hacking battlerecorder servers, and they actually post screens from the battlerecorder!

so the question is: how can normal BF2 players go onto a battlerecorder ranked server (no singleplayer LAN bs here) and bring back the battlerecorder?

i found the battlerecorder in the BF2 menu, but all it has is 4 options, upon which i click download.

it goes to 33 % or 64%, before saying "SERVER REFUSES TO SEND" or "error downloading"

server refuses to send is by far the most common.

i just want to see from various angles what it looks like to perfectly bomb say a DPV moving at 100 mph up a hill, as i sure cant from the mig 29 cockpit, having already passed and because of angle and such.

and it would be nice to see stuff like invisible helicopters and see if they really WERE hacking.

oh yeah, and for FRAPS, is there any easy program that converts BMP to JPG?

Battle recorder does work. Unfortunately 90% of the servers that have it enabled don't have it setup properly.

To download BR demos go into the community tab and then they are bookmarked in the left hand column from games you have played. Now these will be bookmarked here even if BR is not setup correctly and if you get an error when you try to download there are 2 causes. 1st the server hasn't got it setup correctly or the file has been over written.

For instance we keep 100 BR demos in the FTP once it exceeds 100 it re-writes over the old ones. So after 100 rounds it will re-write the old ones. That's why you need to make sure you get the BR demos sooner rather than later. Now remember different servers will save different amounts of BR demos. The default is 30 so to guarantee you get your BR demo, download it after you finish playing the same day.

To covert BMP to JPG just load it up in paint then choose to save it as a JPG.

it's only worked for me once

it's simply because the server has the hostname set incorrectly from the DNS name that is resolved from that IP - which happens for some hosting companies because they share IP's (only differeny port numbers)

that - plus HKS's comments - which seem very reasonable.

In summary - it works - but the server admins are responsible for correct operations (and EA probably could've set the networking mechanism a bit better)

also - if you want to see the bomb hit that DPV - try f12 or f11

I have never got it to work & I try all the time & its allways the same "failed to find host" error.

Yeah, only a few servers have it set up properly. Also, before the last patch, there was a bug that crashed a recorded battle as soon as the UAV went up. Don't know if they fixed that in 1.22.

There is no command needed to put in the console. Just join a server where you know BR is working, then download it through the community tab. Unfortunately that process can be trial and error all I can say for sure is ours works.

I recommend IRFANVIEW for image format conversion. Does batch conversions as well. (Freeware)v

your best off using "all seeing eye" server browser as it has a better filter for finding working battlefield recorder enabled servers.....you can also check the download URL easily to make sure it looks vaild.

i tried downloading a PBF server BR just after starting this thread, and it worked perfectly!

unfortunately, its operation smokescreen, and my character is flying around in a mig 29, far too fast for me to catch up in the rather slow pace that the camera moves at.

oh wait, just checked the tweak site and that lists controls! thanks!

also, i play widescreen and strangely it was stretched for BR, and when i played afterward was stretched wide as well.
