I fail to see how this proves that rank 'matters'.

Rank has a direct correlation to time played. I only have 300 hours, therefore I'm only a Sgt. Major. Yet I can still attain gold any time I feel like, regardless of how many colonels or lieutenants are in the server.

My roomate has a global score of 14k, with 138 hours played, yet his skill level is easily on par with anybody who is over 150k.

If I had 1700 hours played, and I actually cared about stats, I would easily be at 300k. Same goes for countless others who don't play this game as if it's their life.

Yes, but in the same time you could've done 3-4 games of 50 points per game. Your score per minute really drops down on those low populated servers.

I think a combination of SPM, KD, and how often someone plays in a squad is a fair indicator of how "good" someone is at the game.

Thats a big statement. Care to back it up. Are we taking about normal, full severs? - I just find it hard to believe that you can basically knock out a expert badge on every round of a karkand, normal full server (on foot to boot). Wheres ya stats?

Er, I used to own 16 player karkand servers with a PKM when I was staff sergeant, getting around 3x the score of the guy in second place every round

16 player servers are SO easy to own

I was playing a few rounds the other day, and my team was getting seriously owned, every map, every round. The thing is, the commander was doing a fairly decent job. The squads were even working together to a reasonable point. They were taking flags, and keeping some flags. After a few rounds, i was thinking, WTF...is going on here.
Then it hit me... my whole team was filled with extremely low ranking players, while the other team who was kicking our butts, were ALL high ranking players. Ahhhhhhh.......
A team of 16 guys who have 100 hours or better each, against a team of 16 guys with maybe 100 hours total for all 16, lol. Yeah, i think that was it.
I dont think rank matters to the extreme, however simply based on hours played, a guy with 100 hours should be adapt enough to destroy a guy with say, 20 hours.

I was playing a karkand map the other day. Small map, 20 people 100 tickets. I never play small maps cos the flags normally get taken before the most of the tickets get spend. This was my first time on Karkand (expect one game on single player)
I was only on foot with a PKM the whole round (need that support time up, as its far from my fav class). Anyway heres my score......



I was quite impressed as that was above my average score on a big, 300 ticket map. Then I noticed that I was the only fancy Major and everyone else was a Sergeant Major or lower. That deflated my ego a bit. But the score is still sweet (unless Im mistaken).

Ok, how the hell was it your first round on karkand when you were a MAJOR, which you are now, and have spent 357 hours on karkand? Jesus christ give me a break

And also you don't seem to be able to take much advantage of the PKM, what with a 0.64 K/D with LMGs

Sergeant Major is not a low rank. It's pretty hard for a casual player to get that high, so anyone sergeant major and above is a dedicated gamer, hence ought to be skilled. I'm a first sergeant and I've worked many officers, even knifed a colonel.

IMO, sergeant major is the point at which you should have utterly mastered the game, without question.

Dunno about rank mattering.

I can take out some Luitenants that are in J10's with an F35b, yet the same thing doesn't apply on another day. Where i can have trouble taking out a private in a J10 and the missles are just going through...

BF2 is all about luck, good days and those annoying bad days.

A person can be really good at shooting and stuff by the time they have reached First Sergeant. Then it's really just about perseverance.

No probs, my bubble is still intact. I just didnt think I could get so many kills in a 100 ticket game, and the srever was full, bar one. The kill difference is quite funny. We won the game by 50 tickets (yet, didnt win via flags)
The next round my friend plays and after an unlucky story invoving his tank and a jeep. He ended the round at the bottom of the table with ZERO points and the his team lost by 50 tickets.

Its a funny ole game.

Well when there is that lil people running around, its fun killing half the team in a few seconds lol

Rank matters about as much as I do to this forum...
