    Grunts V Vechile Map's

hi guys just a quick question,
how many of you actually think we need maps with out vechiles so its just purelly foot based.
the strike at karkand map is awsome for gruntin (term used for foot soldiers)
but when the game is set to 16 players it tends to get a bit one sided towards the vechiles killin an racing off to cap flags
with the new booster packs arriving which are for vechiles in every way apart from great wall.
do you think its time they made maps for both sides of war tactics?
we've already got the vechile maps but no maps made just for gruntin!

I think quite a few people would argue that Karkand, Warlord, Sharqi etc were basically "infantry" maps, despite having a (relatively modest) number of vehicles on them... In fact, I'm sure I read a post on here when EuroForce came out, where a couple of people were relieved it was so armour-heavy rather than "yet another city map".

That said, I tend to prefer infantry combat to vehicles so a totally vehicle-free map could be good... I'm just not sure that it'd play right... The vehicles are needed to balance the kits - eg what good would an anti-tank kit be on a map with no targets for the SRAW/Eryx?

    EDIT: for a typo

The problem isn't the vehicles. . . it's that noone plays AT.

Karkand is an infantry map. Sure, there are some tanks on it and fe APCs. . . However, it is by and large an infantry map and you can easily avoid vehicles for the most part. If you can't, use AT. . . it is easy to get the best of tanks with AT on karkand as you can run and hide real easy like.

true on the anti tank kit,
but sayin that ive seen plenty of players using the anti tank kit just as there main role,
        like my self.
i dont uselly play AT to kill the tanks but because the missile kills in one shot an is accurate,
alot of people think o hes got AT ill just carry on proning here an shoot him lol,
what a mistake 80% of the time :P.
but it gets a bit fraustrating most of the time when its a 16player game an al they can do is jump in tanks!
an before any body flames i dont get pwnd by tanks

As a fledgeling armor whore, I object

My issue with having no vehicles at all would be how long it takes to get anywhere on maps larger than 16.

But seriously, what about a compromise idea that only includes vehicles without heavy weapons (no tank, no apc)? The quad-runner in SF is awesome and has no guns at all. The Hummer (and it's counterparts) doesn't really have the ability to dominate a map like a tank does since they are so easy to take out. So I'd leave those in. If you haven't played SF, check out the vehicles in that. There are a couple of really fun and fast ones which would be candidates for this type of idea.

            Re: Grunts V Vechile Map's

Everybody has their likes and dislikes. Ground pounders generally like city maps, and pilots generally like more open fields of play. I have found that these new EF maps are nice in rotation. They have a very different feel, but that is exactly the point I think. They are meant to give you a different type of game. Granted, some folks may not like that type of get in a tank, drive, kill, die, repeat kind of play, but I have found it to be a fun change. It certainly requires different strategy and tactics.

As with all of this it is an issue of balance. Kits have things that balance them (i.e no grenades for A-T), guns have things that balance (Deviation, bullet count)......so maps should be balanced. I certainly wouldnt want to play ONLY infantry maps with NO vehicles. Thats called Counter Strike.

I'm a true blue ground pounder and I love having vehicles on a map. Just not too many (e.g. euroforce). IMO they got the amount of vehicles just right in SF. Plenty of vehicles to get from point A to point B but not so many that everyone is rolling around in a tank.

yeah i got SF m8 usin the quads only as transport would be awsome, plus you could allways alter the size of the map so there would be no need for tanks.
dont get me wrong i love tanks aswell but i feel theres always room for change.

                  Re: Grunts V Vechile Map's

I play mostly SF now rather than vanilla BF2, because I prefer the infantry-bias on those maps... but with the release of EF and soon (well, soon-ish) AF, I'm figuring I'd better learn to be good in jets and attack choppers, so I've been returning to vBF2 to practice...

                    i agree but!
what im talkin about is the idea of some new maps just made for grunts,
as it stands at the moment we have tanks on every map but we dont have jets/helis on every map,
so there for the maps with jets/helis were made with them in mind.
but what i would like to see would be some maps made just for grunts, even add the quad bikes to get around.
like i said before im not against tanks as ive had my fair share of them over the past year (not long got my vet armour badge :) )
just feel like i still love the game but need some thing a bit different from the normal an not so 1 sided on certan maps.

The thing is I actually like fighting against tanks and apcs as long as it's just a couple of them and not a clump of 6 engies in their tanks. If you took all the armor out I think it would detract from an infantry map.

The thing that allows infantry to gain even footing with armor is having plenty of cover (urban maps) and well-placed ToW installations. So if you want to have a map that favors the infantry put lots of tows and lots of cover... that way a tank driver has to have eyes in the back of his head or he's dead meat.
