newbie promotion confusion

Ok, lets get two things out in the open before I go further.

First, I'm very new to this game.

Second, I do enjoy playing BF2 although I admit that I'm not that good at it yet.

I had my first exploits online today at the game and I did get kind of frustrated at it.

My first game was on the Karkland map and I seemed to get killed as soon as I spawned every single time. Either that or I had to trudge for miles.

I joined squads but there was no team work and so I couldn't learn from more experienced players.

On the wetlands map which I soon switched to, I found myself getting blown up by helicopters all the time and therefore spent most of my time driving most of the way across the map to get back into the game.

During one of my many road trips a message came up saying i'd been awarded basic driving.

When I finished my sorry attempt at playing BF2 and went back to look at my stats though, they hadn't improved at all and I was no closer to promotion.

Am I missing something here?

Sometimes there's a delay in your stats updating, can take up to a day.

Key to surviving is to keep mobile, run and gun. Staying still will get you killed real quick. Joining a squad with their act together helps, and in case you don't know you can spawn on your squad leader (he'll show up in green on the spawn map, if he's still alive).

Stats take time to update. The server that you are on, has to report the stats at the end of each round to EA. Then your stats get updated on BFHQ. It may take minutes or even days sometimes for the stats to show up.

As far as getting killed constantly, yeah.......I was in that boat at the beginning too. You will get better. Some servers are better than others with using VOIP and working as a squad. If no one in you squad is talking, START! I have found that a lot of people will be more active in voice, if you kinda break the ice so to speak.

Yep I got the bit about spawning on squad leaders from playing single player before venturing online.

Problem I had was there didn't seem to be any coordination between squad members.

spawn killing happens... spawn somwhere else if you die more than twice at the same point. and stay in the point selection map till the artillary that just killed you stops.

Just wait for the stats to get updated. and get used to the USMC camping the karkand hotel spawn points. It happens alot.

I hear ya bandit i just made lance crpl. my stats suck but i guess i had enough points. Still frustrated because i try to work with squads and teammates but i have sseen few others who are doing the same. And the few times ive been in servers that people are actually talking it did really help. I had a commander the other day, forget his name and the server but he was using the mic and was very good and helpful. even telling me when i had close enemies in the alleys and such.
Kudos to that guy!

Just wait for the stats to get updated. and get used to the USMC camping the karkand hotel spawn points. It happens alot.

Don't spawn at the hotel after the game starts... so many damn tank and PKM spawn campers... just spawn at the square and snipe the support noobs...

or lay mines over all the spawn camping places.. you'd be surprised at all the kills you get from tank whores who don't watch where they're driving

How do you use VoIP? I've never seen it used at all nor used it... I always use TS.

1: Plug in mic and headset
2: Join game, enter squad
3: Press 'b' and talk
4: Repeat step 3 where necessary to communicate with squad members
5: For squad leaders, press 'v' to talk to commander

Pretty easy really.

Very useful


Just practise for a while online dont enter full servers try and get 16 players on a 32-64 map the game will last longer and you more likely to stay alive longer

Unfortunately, teamwork is hard to come by on public servers. The amount of times I've landed a good squad or joined a good squad in progress is probably countable on my two hands. But it is much more enjoyable when it happens.
