First of all, let's clear up a few misconceptions here. The USS Essex is NOT an aircraft carrier. It once WAS an aircraft carrier, a CV9, the fourth incarnation with the Essex name which saw service in WWII (interestingly, as the flagship of Task Force 14, the Essex struck Wake Island in October 1943) but was decomisioned (for the second time) in July 30, 1969. The version of the Essex used in the game is the fifth incarnation, and is of type LHD2. The LHD 2 is the second in the Wasp class of amphibious assault ships designed to fully support a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) of 2,000 Marines.
Secondly, the anti-air installations are supposed to be a combo of a semi-active radar-guided NATO Seasparrow Missile Systems (NSSMS) battery and a Phalanyx MK 15 CIWS (Close In Weapons Support). The sea sparrow looks remarkably like a patriot launcher IMHO.
Thirdly, the weapon in the CIWS is NOT a railgun, and is NOT a chaingun. It is an M-61A1 Gatling gun.
Last, if you can't get in to the second mount, then you are trying to get into the wrong part. I am fairly sure you have to try to jump into the sea sparrow battery, not the CIWS. (That is the boxy thing, not the thing with the gun barrels that looks like it's wearing a goofy hat).
