    sluggish bf2 and 12,521 3dmark?

    Hi,
I bought a PNY Verto 6600GT 128 AGP 8x and gameplay is quite sluggish. On low settings all around, I get about 40 fps tops. I tried with other settings and nothing. So I ran a benchmark test...Suggestions?? I also have a Radeon 9800XT coming in and I would like your opinion of which would be the better BF2 performer. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
    I have 512MB ram and 2.4ghz p4.

512 memory is much too little for anything over Low settings. and with 128mb video memory i dunno, 40fps sounds a tiny bit low, but who knows. get the latest drivers and make sure nothing is running in the background that would waste ram.

If you really want to benchmark your graphics card, use 3DMark05 or 06. And like what the others have said above, 512MB is like the bare minimum to play BF2.

What everybody else has said: 512mb is too little. Drop another stick in there--you can find them for sometimes as little as $35 after rebates. Newegg is your friend.

Onto the VPU--I'm thinking the 9800xt would be better. I'm betting it's got 256mb VRAM?

Wait...I've got four minutes, and since alot of the other knuckle heads have only posted smileys, I'm about to do your homework for you, just to show that we care about your electron I/O:

This links to a side-by-side comparison of the two cards specifications, and some ~18month old benchmarks.

Out of the box, if the 9800xt has the 256MB of VRAM, it should run BF2 at least a little better than the 128MB on the 6600gt, even though the nvidia card has a significantly faster core clock. The extra ram on the VPU will help with the large textures in BF2. Bump up your system ram to 1gb and things should move MUCH more smoothly--and you'll see the best results from your card. Without the extra system ram, you may end up bottlenecking the video card.
