What causes excessive lag in the air ?

Since the 1.21 patch, I've stayed away from planes and choppers, but the last days , I've tried to fly chopper and plane but there's always a BIIIG LAAG.

Lag in chopper : I have to right-click like 4 or 5 times before able to switch to TV-guided. I have to hit the "x" key like 5 times before the flares goes out.

Lag in plane : Unbelievable. I cant even switch the bomb/missile mode quickly, I always have to hit F 4 ,5 times and can change view as I wish. Sometimes, it just freezes then 5 sec later I've crashed...

Sometimes I only click one shot on the shooting button, but the missile or the machine gun just continu firing even when I dont click !! It's getting me mad.

It does this in EVERY server I join. Plz help

    btw maybe this could help:
    AMD 64 2800+
    512 ram
    40G hard drive
    ATI Radeon 9600 256mb (AGP)
    High Speed Internet connection.

I dont want to post another time so here's another question :
Is there a program I could download that , with one click, close all my running programs (anti-virus/spaware), and when I finish playing BF, with another click, re-run all these programs.

    thx

Likely I'd say it's your RAM. Either turn down your textures or get more RAM and it should work better. Battlefield needs at least a gig.

Yes more ram is needed! In most cases, the lag is reduced dramatically.

If it worked fine before the patches, why does he need to change his ram?

Turn down the lighting in graphics options.

you have very low system hardware
I would put ALL settings on LOWEST or Off
                resolution down to 800 x 600
and I very much doubt you would get 30fps
(I have a 3.2Ghx P4 and had to replace 2GB of failed ram
while waiting for delivery - I used older computer with 512 ram and 9800 pro - better than you - and barely got 30fps)
if you do not get 30fps, (which is absolute minimum)
then reduce vis distance down to 75%
                that will really helps fps
now in summary - with such low hardware
you might also keep server selection down to smaller players
and if STILL bad = stay out of aircraft
now you are just hurting your team mates

Also remeber that bf2 uses 200MB MORE RAM SINCE PATCH 1.2

well tried to turn lightning and dynamic shadow off and It seems to work. You said you can barely go higher than 30 fps ?

I have Terrain on MED, effects on MED, geometry on MED, view distance 100 and the rest on LOW and my fps is like 40 or 50...
