    Microphone (VOIP?) Problems

I had like a karaoke like terrible Sony microphone that worked fine in the game except it wasn't loud enough and it wasnt conveniently attached to my head so I got a logitech "gaming" headset but it won't work with BF2.

It will work on all CS's and DoD, etc... but I can't get it to even work with BF2. Under the Options menu on BF2 I can go to Audio and do the microphone test but it will not pick up a signal unless when I click the "start test" button i am already talking into the mic... if sound is not going into the mic when I click the button at the exact same time, it will be red, not green, thus picking up no signals...

So while on a server I will hold my key to try it out to see if I can talk but the talking icon doesn't even show up on the right side of the screen like it should, and no one can hear a thing. The microphone is perfectly fine and works with everything but BF2, what is going on here?

    Thanks for any help.

Red usually means "overload"... as in it's picking up too much sound and it's distorting the signel all ta hell.

Honestly, I'm having trouble following you in your post. Try re-phrasing and being a little more clear about it.

Also, is it a USB mic?
Do you get sound when you test in the audio properties menu in-game?
Have you tried searching these forums to find your answers?

Every so often Ill take another stab at making the VOIP work. In the set up menu, it simply won't pick up my mic. It's a nice headset that works fine with all other applications. I always figured it was my MSI on board sound not letting me use it.

I'm connected with the 1/8" connectors, not USB.

About 90% of the time when people think the ingame VOIP isn't working, it's because the server they are playing on doesn't have it set up properly. There's TONS of servers out there that list as having Battlecoms enabled, but since they never bothered to set it up, you're talking to the air.

If it works in the in-game test, it's working fine on your end. If it's not working while playing, then the server is borked. Find a different one.

My mic never used to work with my onboard sound but yesterday I got a new card and it works fine.

I know mine doesnt work if I have Mic boost on in the BF2 options, it mutes it... Weird I know but true.

Do you have that ticked? Have you tired adjusting the sliders, the ones you used when you originally installed bf2 to set the mic up? (Cant remember if theses are available in the mic test function)

I had to do that with the threshold also to get mine to work. Have you verified other people can get their mic working on the same servers? Some servers just don't have working VoIP even when they say they do.
