Re: Will PC 3200 speed ram work on a 2700 speed motherboard???
Quick question requires a quick answer: no
Unless the memory modules can be dumbed down, which most of the "good" stuff isn't, it may not run it properly.
I have however done it (lower your DRAM timings from DDR400 to DDr333)

Ahahaha love it when people like yourself who don't know completely 100% but still post..Originally posted by machstemQuick question requires a quick answer: no

Anyways yes you could use a PC3200 stick in a PC2700 slot, but it won't run as fast as 3200, it will run at the speed a 2700 stick runs.Comment

Yes. You are correct.Originally posted by ZeframOriginally Posted by Zefram
you can use higher rated memory on a motherboard that supports lower rated memory... most of the time. The memory would just run at a lower clock speed.

depends on the mainboard technically it should just slow down the ram to pc2700. But a lot of mainboards won't work at all unless its the correct speed my servers intel mainboard won't fire up with pc3200 for instance.Comment
