Dead Ranked Servers

Just was pondering a thought here.

Anyone else here pay for a RANKED server only to see it sit online with nobody ever in it. You try to get the dang thing going by sitting in it all day yourself and one or two people show up and leave shortly there after?

VERY VERY frustrating for me anyways.

I wish to god EA would lower the required players needed to start a RANKED game to at least 4!!! Or make a bot that can sit in until enough players join, then the bot can leave the game....just to get the dang game started!!!
After a game is going, the servers usually have no problem staying active for awhile.

So many BF2, and SP's servers sit empty day in and day out. I think unless something can be done about this, I am not going to continue to pay for an empty server.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject?

I feel ya. Our clan just got a new ranked server 64.182.159.57:16567 running popular maps right now. More information about our server here.We can most of the time get it populated around peak times, but as soon as its getting late we lose people, and the server is empty all night and all day , until that peak time again. Its hard to get a new ranked server going, but once you do its great. I really agree that EA needs to lower the amount of people to join in a 32 player server to at least 5.

hmmm
we usually have good luck staying full about 18 hrs
per day
(36 man server)
with many repeat players
wish I could help
maybe we (the community) can devise some way to help start servers
there might just be too many ??

advertise the server. I remember that chinese server that came around a couple weeks back had a REALLY good advertisement. Filled up pretty quick.

I think once you get a good reputation going, then you'll get your regulars and they will help ya...

We've had a server since the demo released and have gained at least 15 regulars from it. Just be patient dude, give it a few weeks and your server will start getting more help filling by other people, and it may even fill by itself.

As an admin, talk to other players every now and then. Dont get too chummy or talkative.........its a game right?
But, everyonce in a while say something nice or funny to someone.
This is gonna sound stupid, or silly, but if your decent, they will put your server in their favorites. They will remember the admin, that......is nice to them, or whatever.
Also, police strongly. Im not saying make a ton of rules. But what im saying if a rule is broken, BOUNCE THEM. People like that and will love to come back to a server where the admin.......will bust some a$$ if the infamous tards show up.
1.) act nice, say a few short nice comments to some folks, without being a chatty katty.
2.) keep your server tard free.
3.) Offer a server teamspeak. Yes, there is VOIP in game, but some folks dont like it. Offer TS. THere is a thread here where someone was offereing ts server, 30 man, for 5 bucks a month.

those are 100% true. Exactly what you need to do to run a server successfully. I'm sure you'll find most of YOUR favorite servers have those same qualities, I know my server does

Yep, we do all what you say. Given our server has only been up for about a week. Hopefully it start up soon. I am on right now, going to put on EF right now, hopefully that will draw 9 people in, if not then I will switch it back to most populare maps.

we ran EF maps for about 5 days and then tried to do a euro/vanilla rotation, but that didnt work out... at one time, we were full on karkand and the server dropped down to 7 people on the next map (great wall). Also, your server name can do a lot for you (ex add 24/7 or low ping or something that people might search for) ours is usually named 24/7 Day Maps AFnation.com, but its at AFnation.com low ping right now...

It usually takes us a good hour to get it ours going, it is frustrating.

Theres more ranked servers than players. The community doesnt need any more, get over it. Whats so special that sets yours apart where players should sacrifice to play there? You expect these new fly by night, late launch startup servers to get people? They want stability, they want to know the server is going to be there later. People follow other people. There are 7000 servers about 15% get use. Deal with it.

My clan server was a 32 player wake island server. It got full once. Then they closed it because it was a complete waste of money, having an empty server 99% of the time.

He does have a point. You need something unique on your server and most importantly you need an A+ moderating staff.

Our networks server is always full(64 player). We have an awsome moderating team and we are actually working on our own server bot right now to replace BF2CC. On top of that we are working on a script that kicks runway blockers and vehicle TKer's automatically.
