What criteria do you consider when choosing a squad?

Assuming a pub server and you don't know anyone.

When you flip open the squad window and look for a squad to join, what criteria do you consider?

    Here's what I do:

    - I look at the squads with 3+ players first
    - I look for a balance of kits
    - If the SL is in a chopper or jet, I won't join
    - Bonus points if SL is a medic
    - Points off if the squad has snipers (sorry snipers nothing personal)
    - Bonus points for squads with names like TEAMWORK, MICS, VOIP, etc. These ones are often the best.

yep i look for those, also where the SL is on the map, if im say usmc on karkand and all the sl are at the hotel but theres one at the subs or somewhere its always him i pick, i can always leave the squad after ive help cap the flag. I also try to find unlocked squads that have a few clan members in as they tend to work well together

It's a good list, my only concern is the fact that you dont like snipers. Im not flaming you, but on certain maps to have a sniper on the out-skirts of a flag being capped, he can spot enemy's hiding in the buildings, or spotting and shooting enemys entering in the flag area.
My other concern is that your squad leader shouldnt be a medic, unless you have another medic in the squad, if the leader goes down, your screwed. You NEED that leader as a spawn point. He should be support, i find alot of points are taken when you are able to reload often and continue on.

            I look for 2+ people.
But, most importantly, I look to see if they are playing close together. To me, that's the whole point of a squad... fighting shoulder-to-shoulder.

I hear what you are saying about snipers, I certainly don't hate snipers but the thing is on a pub server how many snipers actually work with their squad? 2%? The other 98% just join a squad then wander off and do whatever they feel like. I know it's a lot different if you are playing a clan match when people actually perform their roles etc.

re: the medic SL. So if your choice of SLs is medic, engie, assault, support which would you take? I would take medic, support, assault, engie in that order. Even without the bodyarmor I find medics have decent survivability with their medpacks and long sprint and the ability to heal squadmates is great (if you don't have any additional medics).

I look for where they are located at, if they are at a flag and need help capturing it, or heading toward a flag.

Re: What criteria do you consider when choosing a squad?

It all depends on how much time I have to play, if Im going to be in for awhile then I will play solo for a bit and see if I get any invites, if I do not get any invites then either I will join a larger squad or if Im feeling like an underdog I will join that guy that is in a squad all by himself and follow him into artillary if need be.
It really all depends,I prefer to play in a squad with people I know because I can be pretty unorthodox for the point whore BF2 Squads out there and ussually they start bi***ing at me when they are cappin a flag and I hang back, they don't realize I am covering them or getting a better view of any incoming threats.

I look for where the SL is, if its a lone player capping a back flag I will spawn on him. Otherwise I will go on size and I also stay away from SLs that are snipers.

Sniper squad leaders arn't always bad. If you were attacking a flag, he could position himself in a nice sniper spot overlooking the flag, and let squad members pour onto the flag after spawning on him. He can also act as a spotter.

I just wait for some squadleader to invite me, usually happens about 10 or so minutes into the game.

Then if they don't do much leading then I'll take charge and watch the squadleader follow me around.

I've had squadleader ask me to join there squads just so they can try to recruit me for their clan. Which annoys the hells out of me.

I have barely played Battlefield 2 for a day and a half but whenever i am looking for a squad i just find one without a medic 90% of the time they don't have one and their grateful that i can help... most of the time

I look to see if any squad is near where I want to be, spawn and leave the squad.
