Crashing

I updated to 1.21 and now I cant start the game.
Every time I run bf2 I see te logo, a black screen
comes up, and then it crashes back to the Desktop
EA says to delete background tasks and update my
video card but I get the same thing.
IM DESPERATE!!!!!!:cry:
(btw other people with the 7800 series seem to
have problems too I heard.)

Try doing this,from readme.txt:

- CHANGING DISPLAY MODE
Occasionally on some video cards you may be allowed to set the
display mode to one not supported by your computer. This will result
in a black screen being shown. To remedy this use the Windows
Explorer to find and delete the directory:

\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\

This will reset your game to the default settings. You can
now start the game, retrieve or create a new profile, and re-adjust
the settings using the Menu as normal.

If you are using a ***** from earlier version than 1.21, then that might also be a problem, as you really aren't using a 1.21 BF2.exe, but a previous version.

I deleted the directory and it still crashes!

Argh! I'm having the exact problem as well, and it's making me crazy! I've reinstalled the game like 50 times now, hoping that it will all of the sudden decide to work.

It only does it after I install the latest patch. Once, after I reinstalled the game, I tried running it and it worked like a charm. Then I patched it up and it crashed. What's going on?

i had this problem... i fixed it by getting a new cd drive, turns out mine was too sensitive to read the perfectly clean cd...

but wouldnt that just tell you dont have a bf2 disc in your drive

im running 4400+ x2, 2gb corsair, asus en7800gtx all at stock, i might get to play for 15 mins one day and then maybe 90 mins another, even with core affinity set to 1 i crash to desktop, no build up to crash. almost seems to be a cache problem how many of you guys running winxp 64? here is another problem i found if you go to my docs bf2/mods/bf2/cache. if you have more than one folder in that directory delete them all and restart the game. some times if the game crashes and you restart it it will install another folder and in each folder will be a config for your graphics thus confusing the game which folder to use . also if you update driver/change video card please also remember to do this.

i heard there is a dual core patch for BF2? Maybe u need to look for it?

did look there is a programme called prioff.exe but all that does is assign a core which can be done through task manager. there was a bogus patch for winxp 64 but after install the game would not run at all. but thanks for the suggestion anyway's
