New to BF2 and have a few questions on VOIP and the map display.

    Hello,

I love the game and am getting the hang of how things work but I have a few questions on some things. First, the map. I noticed when you change from class to class the map shows different things on it. For example, when you are the support class some of your teamates are highlighted with a big red circle and some of your teamates become a yellow circle. Could you point me to a manual or detail description of how the map operates and what all the different colors and shapes mean.

Next, I would like to use the VOIP feature in the game but I can't figure it out. How do you use this feature?

Thanks and I look forward to participating in this community in the future.

    Matt

Well to answer your first question heres the scoop:

Red means needs ammo or a health pack.
I have yet to seen yellow but I assume that means out of ammo

The broken lightning bolt on the map if you are a medic symbolizes a teammate that is critically wounded and needs reviving....

VOIP requires a microphone to be attached to your computer.
Some servers do not support VOIP.
You need a push to talk key to use VOIP, you can change that in the settings menu.

        also note:

if you are support and you see a guy wih a red circle around his dot, he needs ammo.

if you throw down some ammo packs, you will give him ammo BUT the red circle stays (not sure why)

So red circles basically mean that they needed something at one time or another.

Thats a bug, it goes away eventually, definately when the guy dies...but you still resupplied him tho...

A quick tip as well. There is a bug as medic that show ENEMY soldiers with red around them on the map when revealed by UAV. These enemy soldiers are low on health. Kill them!

does anyone know if the EA US Official servers have VOIP enabled on them?

those are the only servers I play on, and I NEVER hear anyone using VOIP.

I always play lone-wolf, is VOIP only for squads/commander comms?

You can only use VOIP if you are in a squad or a commander.

You can test if the servers have voip enabled by pressing the push to talk key while in a squad, if a little green icon doesn't show up near your minimap, its not enabled.
