Question About Key Mapping

Maybe this has been answered already but, I took a sabbatical from BF2 for awhile so I am new to the game again. How do you assign the "crouch" function to anything but the left CTRL key??? I cant remap that function. Its stuck on the left CTRL.

Edit your Contols.con file and change this line...

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PICrouch IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftCtrl 0 0

from LeftCtrl to whatever you want it to be.

BTW, Controls.con is found in

My Documents > Battlefield 2 > Profiles > 001 (could be a different number if you have more chars)

Actually on mine it shows a blank on the controls screen for that item and when I try to set it to one of my extra mouse buttons (like I had in bf1942) nothing happens. I think it is a glitch and the original poster found it as well.

Let us know if it works.

Sometimes the Control.con file is a little flakey. You edit it and go into a game. The keys aren't what you edited it too so you exit and check the file. All your changes are gone.

The way around that is after you edit the file LOCK IT by right clicking and checking the "Read Only" box. Then run the game. You won't be able to save any settings within the game, but the ones you manually changed should remain there. Unlock it later on sometime and everything *should* stay.

Couse it's the other way round...

Editing should be done in notepad...
Word adds all kinds of data to a document on saving...

Oh yeah, Notepad for sure. Word would completely screw the pooch.

Hopefully nigel2828 will reply and let us know how it went.
