Low FPS with 7900GTX 512 SLI "HELP!"

Any ideas?? am I missing something???

    Brand new fresh built PC.

With the parts I have & over $1,000 in video cards I should be able to use all max settings and get great FPS... Maybe BF2 hates SLI??

Good FPS with 1 card 80's-90's!!

My FPS in SLI playing BF2 stink!
    1280x1024 - max LCD resolution.
    All high with x4 AA
    SLI 40'S- 50'S & 30's on SF night maps.

Global gpu setting: multiple gpu rendering
Tried all kinds of BF2 profile settings.. nothing helps.

I would think my FPS would be better with the setup I have.

I did all of the following:
Switching the cards around, All power connections are connected, took the cards & SLI bridge in & out about 10 times to make sure they have good connections, DRIVERS 84.21, tried all kinds of nvidia BF2 profile settings. AMD dual core software, MS dual core hot fix.

Maybe it's my Motherboard?? should I get a DFI or ASUS A8N32??
Is my PSU not putting out enough power??? nothing freezes & I do not get restarts. I can buy a P&C 1,000w PSU.

    My 3DMARK05 scores:
    sinlge: 10831
    SLI: 13278
    CPU: 6302

    Any help would be apprieciated,
    Gino

    My PC spec's:
    Win XP Pro SP2
    AMD X2 4800
    ABIT AN8 32x Sli x16
    2 eVga 7900GTX EGS 512MB SLI
    2GB DDR400 Corsair XMS XTREME 2-3-3-6 1T
    Zalman CNPS9500 CPU cooler
    WD Raptors Raid 0
    Antec NeoHE 500w PSU
    Sound blaster live
    CD/DVD burner
    (2) 120mm fams
    1 80m fan
6 USB connections are being used
    3DMARK05 SLI = 13275
    3DMARK06 SLI = 8460
    CPU = 6302

Re: Low FPS with 7900GTX 512 SLI "HELP!"

SLI is junk at such a low resolution. Your not going to see a performance increase and its probably functioning as SLI always does. There is a possibility that you made an error or there is some sort of bug in the drivers etc... but honestly I think its more the case of SLI being severly CPU limited at such low resolutions.

Its a shame that you went out and bought all this stuff, and i dont mean to flame, but even trivial research shows that SLI really doesnt offer more performance until you start hitting 1600x1200 and high end 24" and 30" LCD resolutions. If your on a 17 or 19" LCD, im sorry to say but all SLI will allow you do do it crank up the eye candy and have high transparancy supersam[ling AA and high AF.

Now i think you probably still have some issues to work out, because 40FPS seems too low, SLI is known to actually decrease performance at such low resolutions, but I dont believe by that much. Even so BF2 is limited and capped at 100FPS and with you getting 80-90 with a single card you should be getting around that level of performance if not maxing out at 100FPS all the time.

Re: Low FPS with 7900GTX 512 SLI "HELP!"

SLI overhead is removing any performance gain you'd get from SLI due to running at such a low resolution.

Until you put a load on your graphic system that would significantly overpower a single card, you will see no benefit to SLI, and in some cases it will be even slower than just the single card.

Make sure you've got vsynch disabled and triple-buffering enabled in your profile. You can also force even better graphic settings in the nvidia driver than the game's internal settings allow. You might as well, since you're running at such a low resolution. In fact, with your setup, I'd probably go with SLI 16x AA instead of multi-gpu rendering.

Looking at your sig, you list how many USB ports you're using, and how many case fans you've got, but you don't list your display. That should be telling you something... :-)

Get a BIG lcd screen, nothing in the 20s if want to see them go to work.

Re: Low FPS with 7900GTX 512 SLI "HELP!"

                I have a westinghouse 19inch lcd, max resolution 1280x1024.
So your saying if I got a monitor that supports 1600x1200 my fps would be better??

I tried loading my cards up to see if they would perform better "AA 8xS, AFx16" and it bogs down even worse.

                What are your 3dmark05 scores?
what resolution and settings are you running in BF2 & what are your avg FPS?

Your system is similar & I need something to compare it to.

                please respond....

                Thanks
                Gino

                Which monitor would be best?

or a CRT? CRT's will go higher in resolution.

check the voltage to the cards in sli
Maybe your 12v directs aint cutting it? 11.8 or below your done and theres your problem.. cards are starving for power.....!!!!
i have learned from past experiance 600watt is the way to go!
                  2 x 6800s in sli mode ran worse then 1x 6800 alone

                  Why??i have no clue
I now run 1 x 7800 GTX BFG = 100 fps in just about all maps on BF2

Judging your 3dmark score, everything is fine, 13000 is right in your ball park. I think this is a case of a driver snafu or user error.

Go into BF2 and disable AA. Then go into the Nvidia control panel and enable AA there, 4x AA and 16x AF to start. See how performance is.

You are bottlenecked by a small resolution, but you still should be getting roughly performance in the range of a single card.

You have a high end top of the line uber PC, it software/you that are broken.

Thanks guys I find a monitor with 1600x1200 resolution.

                        I do have another question.
After I installed the 2nd card I cant overclock my cpu anymore.
I was able to overclock my x2 4800 to 2.6 easy "fsb 217, cpu volatge 1.40, ram voltage 1.70"
But now if I try it my PC wont boot, so I have to leave it at the default settings.

Think my PSU is maxed out?

Most 512 cards don't even support drivers for gaming..they typically expect to to modify it to create your own drivers, which takes someone of intelligence in programming ( I don't know how you are with that stuff ) . You'd been better off with dual 256's with an SLI set up. Maybe there is a public release of drivers for the 7900GTX that are modified for gaming. Your problem lies in your drivers, just where to begin is the true mystery.

                            Happy hunting.

                              Problem Fixed!!!!!!
Bought a new samsung sync master 20.1 monitor $489.00

To The Guys Who Said Play @ A Higher Resolution!! THANKS A MILLION!!!

MY NEW SETTINGS... ALL HIGH 1600x1200 AA OFF in game, global profile multi gpu rendering, BF2 profile AA x4, AF x16, image quality "high quality" vsync off, triple buffering on.

Before I did any of this I was getting 40 FPS on a full strike @ karkand server with 1280x1024 all high x4AA.

NOW with my new monitor @ 1600x1200 I get 70's 80's & 90's... with the occasional dip into the 50's but they jump right back up.

FEAR.. I used to get 30's FPS all maximun & 1280x1024.
NOW everything maximum with 1600x1200 I get 70's-90's FPS and they even jump to 135 + with an occasional dip into the 50's but jump right back up.

                              THANK YOU AGAIN GUYS!!!!!!!!!
WITH BF2 TOTALLY MAXED OUT & THE NEW RESOLUTION IT LOOKS SO SWEET & SMOOTH AS BUTTER!!!! WITH THE GREAT FPS!

3DMARK05 did not benifit from the higher resolution & my score got lower.. oh well has nothing to do with gaming
