Just orderd a MX518, what to expect?

Hi there guys,

Well, Ive been thinking about it for ages, why not get a good mouse? I have a generic logitech PS/2 lazer mouse. Its good, but my sister needed a mouse so I thought I might aswell order one.

I liked the MX510, read a few reviews, said it was good, so I looked at the MX518, only a couple of quid more. So I went for that.

What should I expect? I never have had a expensive mouse before.

A solid mouse, had one for a year and I wouldnt go back to anything less.

One of the best mice ive owned till i bought a Logitech G5 lazer mouse The dpi changer is great , being able to lower the dpi on the fly helps alot . Makes the shotguns much easyer to control. Pkm turns into a sniper riffle I usually have high dpi for tanks like Karkand then lower it for spread out maps . Makes it so you can drive full speed and easly shoot the turret .

I love being able to use this mouse and program buttons on it. It has two buttons under your thumb, normal left/right, 3 buttons on top, plus the scroll wheel button, PLUS you can map scroll up and scroll down as well.

All of these buttons are programmable and customizable. I have my Ventrillo transmit and "B" (for Squad VOIP) assigned to my two thumb buttons, L/R click are default, First top button is assigned to "shift", scroll up is knife, scroll down is pistol, scroll button press is "3" for standard weapon, next top button is "4" for grenades/eryx, next top button is ??? (I can't remember what I assigned to it at the moment... ??? :-/ )

This mouse is DEFINITELY worth every penny you spent!! Learn to use the interface to assign the buttons!

You may also consider getting a Belkin Nostromo Gamepad n52. I have one and I only use my regular keyboard for in-game typing to squad/team/all.

I absolutly love the Logitech MX518 using A Black ice pad with the teflon feet

Good mouse, but i dont use the on the fly dpi change thing. I don't like the slick surface on top either, i prefered the surface on the mx500 better.

I don't use the adjustable dpi change either. Makes for a WAAAAY too sensitive response! I know there are surfaces you can buy that you can cut out and place on the mouse. This could be an alternative if you don't like the slickness. I need those and I need pads to go on the bottom so I can pull it off of my desk. Do those really work?

I use this mouse and I find it very good,

- feels just perfect in my hand
- enough buttons on it, so you can ad more functions to your mouse
- it is very precise
- looks nice
- and you feel it is quality, not like some 10$ mouse from microsoft or something

Yeah I tried the highest dpi, and I don't see how anybody could play like that. It' s just crazy. I left at 600 or so dpi.

Are you talikng about teflon pads? I've never used them so I wouldn't know

I've both G5 and MX518. I love both, best mice I ever had. I play at 800/1300 dpi (infantry/turrets). Personally dont see any difference between the two in BF2.

Its great for tanks/apcs occasionally with the sniper rifles when you want to make wide movements without zooming out. Doing flips in helicopters if you ever feel the need are a bit tighter when you push up the sensitivity.

Besides you can change the sensitivty settings if 1600dpi is too high try 1200dpi or whatever.

One thing about the mx500 and mx518 i disliked was the high center of gravity . I noticed this when i got the G5 and compaired it with the 518. the G5 is acually not as high in the middle making it easyer too use .

Ive got a F-Series F10.s mouse pad , things huge :laugh: But i have to say this thing is built to last . Would recomend this pad to anyone.

I had a MX518 and then got a G5 .. I went back to the 518 .. love the extra side button

QFT. I have the Logitech G5 and love it. The only common complaint that I have seen with it is that the mouse wheel is hard to turn or use as a button, but I figured out how to fix this. When I got the mouse out of the box, it was great including the mouse wheel. As soon as I put in the weight pack (plastic cartridge that you insert into the bottom of the mouse with your custom mix of weights) the mouse wheel got really hard to turn or click. It turns out that the weight pack just barely touches the mouse wheel giving it that resistance. You do not need to use the weight pack to use the mouse so that is one option. What I did was use a nail file to file down the corner of the weight pack that was touching the mouse wheel. Now it works perfectly.

I only use the really high sensitivity when I am in AA or some other non-moblie gun. It helps being able to do a 1080 rotation with out having to pick up the mouse.
