    BF2 - Frustrating but Addicting

How frustrating but addicting do you find BF2 personally? I've never had such a sense of figuratively (and literally in this game) starting off in the low ranks and feeling like a newb but yearning to move up in an online game... I think the ranking system really adds to the "I gotta play just one more round" addiction. Plus, are there any other games out today that gives you that same feeling?

For example: in my fervor to perform well, I accidentally blew up my team's artillery. I was ridiculed by my team mates - rightfully so. I had such a real sense of humiliation, was frustrated with myself but wanted to work even harder to prove myself - all in a video game!

      Good stuff buddy! :)

I've done that before as well. I used to pull off some pretty stupid stunts when playing BF Vietnam that I still find myself doing in Bf2. Here's one example:

I'm trying to capture a flag, but it just won't go down. All of a sudden, I see about 4 guys spawn at the flag and realize that the last 2mins have been spent waiting in vain realizing only then that it was our flag all along! hehehe

In the end however, things of that nature can be beneficial (well, not blowing up your own arty) to your team, because in reality you could pass it off as "Nah, relax guy...I was simply defending the flag" :)

      PEACE

I don't believe you, every one has a string of bad luck in BF2 that gets to you, just yesterday for example: round starts I hop in a plane, I get blown up by a "friendly" special ops because he wanted the plane for him and his ****** clan mate (=LAX= clan), I spawn on my squad leader instead who's in a tank only to get instantly killed by a tank shell, so I spawn at another flag which gets hit by artillery sending me flying the air... and to top it off I spawn at the same flag again only to get bombed by a jet within a matter of nanoseconds. At that point I just quit the game.

I've gotten frustrated at Counterstrike too... more so for being out for the rest of the round when you die than for anything else. I definitely understand the intent when it was designed that way, but it takes a lot out of the fun-factor IMO.

Re: BF2 - Frustrating but Addicting

Getting angry at a videogame isn't sane nor is it healthy.

Most adults can differentiate between reality and videogames, those under the age of 17 are more succeptible to claim the game as being "frustrating" or "anger inducing" because their initial trial of "relieving stress while playing" has turned against them in the simplest of senses.

I have done stupid stuff in the game, and the lag at times frustrates me when I'm trying to fly, but I never get overly mad about it. It is, in the end, just a game. A great game nonetheless! :)

Here's another example of a moment I'd rather not experience again! :)

I get out to fix my tank, not expecting to have anyone else around me, and the enemy steals my now-fixed tank and runs off with it, killing me in the process.

I don't know abou you guys, but you not only feel like an idiot, but you have the guilt of seeing countless teammates being killed by the tank you just fixed! :) This is especially fun to do on Karkand, when the enemy thinks his tank/APC will be destroyed, but miraculously it survives because of a supply drop, engineer vehicle close-by, etc. You then proceed to either jump out of yours and take theirs, blow up what you had, and are left with a team with two tanks rather than only one.

                  hehehe

                  PEACE

Well, in a sense it is good you left the game rather than scream at the top of your lungs, or write something stupid and might regret later. You have your limits, and you know when to claim they have been met! :)

As for your scenario, I would have used those 3-4 deaths as an incentive to take care of sh!t. I would have done anything to make life miserable for the TKer, whether it be to damage him just enough to be like "wtf". As for the arty death bomber death, you could do one of two thigns, or both if you've got the time: C4 the enemy artillery on a special operations run, and try to steal the tank/APC and hit the bomber as he comes back for a refiill! :)

It's not sane or healthy but sure is a hell of a good time... the point of gaming has been a "topic of conversation" between me and the wife lately. We both agree that it's a total waste of time at the end of the day... but is a great time while I'm playing BF2. And isn't that a big part of life - to have fun living :)

I'm not too sure I agree. I guess this might show how far gaming has come and what makes BF2 great - that a mere virtual "videogame" makes you experience real emotions - anger included - no matter your age.

                      True.

I've discussed videogaming with my GF as she is an avid gamer herself, and we've also agreed that whether you're a child or adult, you're going to be emotionally attached to the games you enjoy.

There is a difference in how adults and children react after the fact however. It's how you do things after you've played, how you continue to react when the situation appeared to make you react that way in the first palce. Children and young adults may unadvertedly stay emotionally unstable after the fact, where-as adults can "calm" down easier and quicker.

It's not to say that all adults and children react and act the same, it all depends on the person's self-control. You hear about it all the time, not only in videogames, but all aspects of life.

Addiction and its frustrations can be linked to almost any aspect of a consumer society, from watching TV, eating food, drinking alcohol or doing drugs. All of the above are OK in small doses, it's how you control your life in regards to these things that portray whether or not you will flip out emotionally or learn to control your urges and addictions.

Have you ever wondered why they place a ESRB rating such as "Gaming experience may change while playing online"? It references how some people may react while playing these games with other people online, people they cannot see. Some react no differently than they normally would (which isn't the best sometimes) or completely change their personality because of their emotional state!

You'd hate to see my GF once she loses to Mordor when playing Battle for Middle-Earth II then again, she can turn it around and write "Well, some nights all I hear is my boyfriend saying 'god damn lag' or 'I give up, I give up'|

Re: BF2 - Frustrating but Addicting

nice avatar machstem. stupid left wing canucks! you a right wing canadian too?

i think most players would agree that BF2 is a simple ratio of how many times you shoot somebody to how many times you get shot.

so this means that when youre on karkand and get shot by a camping LAV-25 4 times in a row.... not much fun, especially since you never had even a chance at a kill yourself.

but on the flipside, if you knife 5 snipers on sharqi in a row and camp their base in their own T90, it is quite fun.

basically, each kill is fun, and each death is frustrating. deaths from camping vehicles especially repeating are the most frustrating, getting shot after knifing 2 guys isnt really frustrating at all. also running into claymores from bunny hopping snipers aint very fun, especially since snipers are supposed to be easy knife fodder.

this means that for people who get shot all the time and dont shoot anyone.... it probably sucks. sometimes i actually feel a bit sorry for the newbies i knife, but only if theyre not snipers.... if theyre not snipers it shows theyre actually trying, and theyll try and find me 4 times in a row just to get shot each time... poor guys.

it makes me respect how they stick with it, even though it looks like they have no chance against the other guys. like i have never had this problem with BF2, since i had played the original BF1942 and mods for like 2 years before, and so got all the gold medals the day BF2 was out etc.

also, i dont know why new guys go into 24/7 karkand death servers.... it seems a harsh way to learn, as opposed to romping around on a big vehicle map where you wont get shot 2 seconds after you spawn each time.

i would say that you need about a ratio of .8 kills to deaths to have lots of fun in BF2.

the lack of camping is a really important reason of why EF pwns strike at karkand and many other strictly urban maps like ghost town, where APC camping and claymore whoring is rampant.

really, the only emotion i get from BF2 is fun if i do good at the game. i consider anything thats fun to not be a waste of time.

like watching tv and movies for me has become a waste of time, cause they all suck. like fear factor, american idol and all that bs, and there hasnt been a single decent movie since lord of the rings. yeah simpsons is funny, but ive seen almost all the episodes anyway.

thats why BF2 is so nice, cause it has literally limitless replay value, which ONLY battlefield games can claim.

zelda games are one that has a special place for me and about 5 million other teenager aged guys, because we played ocarina of time when we were pretty young and got attached to it (i was 12 or something back then).

basically, i play BF2 until zelda comes out, but other than those 2 games there really isnt too many good games at alll.... rome total war is fun and thats about it, its the mods like bfpirates that im looking forward to.

Re: BF2 - Frustrating but Addicting

Thanks for liking my avatar. :) As for my political affiliance, I voted liberal but I trust no party. I believe our "democracy", like many others, to be like the Simpsons episode where Kang and Kodos from Rigel 4 take over Clinton and Gore. You have to vote for whichever they hand down, but you're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't.

I agree with your empathy/sympathy in regards to the newbiles that join up in BF2, who have had no chance at playing past games like B1942 and Vietnam + mods. We are the rare few that were aware of these issues long before Bf2 was released, and we know that you can have all the points in the world, it may not mean your team victorious.

TV has become something of a bore for me as well, but I admit to only one show which has captivated me as much as X-files had during my teen years: Lost. A great show, but I keep myself behind in the show, so not have to watch commercials and not have to wait for the "next" episode. Simpsons and other "mature" (if you can call it that) cartoons are all that interest me, but videogames are my ultimate "addiction".

We must have alot in common, because we (me and GF) are also waiting for the everlasting wait on Zelda: Twilight Princess. Damn excited about that, the Revolution and the PS3.

Anyhow, good to see some productive comments.

I agree, despite the minor bugs this game is very addictive and some part of it is due to the ranking system which is not perfect but cool as hell, makes you wanna do well at all times.
I must say that for me, I find BF2 SF alot more addicting then the normal BF2.
