BF2/GameSpy nicks really * up!

Now this sucks big time:
Many people (including yours truly) complain they cannot play EF although they downloaded and installed the pack without any problem. EA and BF2 forums say changing your GameSpy nickname or correcting them in C:\Documents and Settings\<your profile here>\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\Profiles.con will help. Read more here.

Now tell me what can you do when GameSpy says "Your nickname is not unique" and when you try to find a S.O.B. using your nick you find out there is no such a guy? I really would like to know!

EA says: dump your hardly played exp. points, unlocks and medals and create a brand new BF2 user and GameSpy profile.
IS THAT A SOLUTION??? It's like a friggin arcade machine! Put your 10euro in and try again. SUX!

There must be another solution. If there is, let me know! I will buy you a brew!

YAY!! I HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM HERE! :banana:

Here is what you do:

Solution "Alpha":
1. Run your EA Downloader
2. Click the link "Edit GameSpy Nickname"
3. IMPORTANT: Login with username you downloaded EF with.
4. Put in your password again (What do you think, EA, we're some half wits?).
5. Type your GameSpy nickname twice.
6. Press OK and wait approx. 30mins for servers to update.
7. Run EF with EAD :)
Make sure your EAD uses Internet Explorer to open WWW sites.

If above won't help try this:
Solution "Bravo":
1. Run internet explorer (firefox seems to have some cookie-related problem).
2. Go to www.gamespyid.com
3. Change your GameSpy nickname to some unique one
4. Go to solution "Alpha", point 1.

I hope it helps others the way it helped me. Actually I really needed to go solution Bravo here

Did you change your GameSpy nickname to some other than your BF2/GS nick in solution's Bravo 3rd step? You should.

(yep, I really want to earn that brew. especially I have never drink Australian one :) )

Been through all of this, changing names, changing gamespy ID's, even trying to create new accounts. Nothing works! I'm now locked out of any EA player name changes for a week - though this is set to my BF:2 player name. I've written to EA, given them seven days for a fix or I want a full refund.

Ooops sorry! No beer for you. I does NOT work. Check my thread in the euro forces section for a full break down of what i did step by step with screen shots showing every step of the way and how it refuses to change nick to my bf2 game name. It DOES work if i create a brand new bf2 nick but what is the use of that?

Prove me wrong and i will owe you a beer.
