    AT + Stingers = Helo/Plane solution.

Why doesn't the AT have a stinger which he can use for taking out airplanes?
Personally I don't get it. Many of you have played DC where you were equipped with a Stinger (or whatever term it was) when you were playing the AT kit, how satisfying was it to take out a really good pilot? Or getting off that sweet shot? There should be no reason why it shouldn't be in this one. And i'm not talking about 'heat seeking' either , just your ordinary point and shoot stinger, so it actually requires skill to take out pilots. This would eliminate/improve a couple of things

#1 Complete Dice's mentality of the 'rock paper sessiors" terminology.
I know ground troops have the stationary AA but it seems to be causing more problems than anything else. Just look at the explosions of threads... if we have a stinger for the AT class then the stationary AA would be the 2nd line of defense, and not the primary and not be so vidal for improvements, tweaks etc....

#2 Test pilot skills (and show who the real pilots are)
Since stingers would be able to take out planes in 1-2 shots, pilots just couldn't fly close to the ground like they traditionally do. If they did , with the stinger system implemented, they would blow up easily. bombers would actually have to fly at a decent altitude to bomb rather than just a couple meters over head. You'd actually have to AIM with the bombs rather than just clicking it 1-2 seconds before the target.

#3 Spread out the distribution of kits
One of the reasons why I don't play AT that often is because I don't find it useful enough. It has its advantages and the erxy is one hella powerful bazooka when used properly, but with the new addition of a stinger, the AT would be much more inviting to play. I would have no better pleasure taking out a plane / helo with a stinger, where I would actually have to aim rather than just locking on and hoping with the best with that silly AA...

#4 With the addition of Stingers, helo's should be beefed up to it's orginal armor.
Since BH's and attack helos have this new threat, with the current armor strength - it just seems too weak. You can take out a helo with 1 mounted machine gun in no time... There was nothing better than having a crew in the BH for fun.... i miss those times cuz now its just rape...

In addition to this, I would love to see the mec and chinese transport helos actually have GOOD mounted machine guns. Bring back the spray for the BH but and instead of giving the mec + china helo's only 1 mounted machine gun, give em like 4 on each side so there would be bullet spread. I would LOVE to see a BH and a mec helo go at it with a full crew and see the BH actually lose for one...

What do u guys think? My laptop bat is dying sorry for grammar/spelling mistakes

because theres already plenty of aa platforms and mobile aa vehicles

I have never understood why they took the AA out of a kit and placed it in a fixed installation. if u either crated them or made it a kit it would completely change the dynamics of the game toward that of DC et al where u had to be on the look out of the enemy when u were flying. That and give them a mobile AA gun would mean the Air Power has a serious threat out and about and the ground troops can have over head protection on the spot. If a heli is camping a flag he will get a surprise when 3 people spawn back and blast him :P

but it would have to be non-heat seeking missiles to work. that way u need an amount of skill and thus giving a balance to the field of battle

altho maybe im just hankering after the old days

After playing Euroforce you start to realise that the maps in Vanilla are badly designed in terms of air power. On Taraba Quarry one side of the map can become a no fly zone with Mobile AA positioned correctly. Mind I've seen teams not do it then they get what's coming to them.

Can't see Dice adding more features to kit, can see them adding more mobile AA to maps.

If you want handheld AA, then check out the Nations at War BF2 mod, its got some.

          Heres the link- http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/ba...ml?sid=6144697

I agree they need manpack AA's. They would need some kind of "Fire and Forget" type system, since you only have about 3 seconds of visual on a plane with the current fog / cloud settings, and would not be able to guide it in manually.

You can take out Helicopters with the AT missiles anyway, I've done it many times, it often takes 2 shots and the helicopter has to be fairly nearby but it's possible, not sure how having another missile that fires straight would make much difference. As for shooting down a plane with a handheld weapon that doesn't lock on....good luck with that.

What they need to do is put an AC-10 gun ship in the mix.

                Re: AT + Stingers = Helo/Plane solution.

                1. Static AA is not the primary line of defense against aircraft. That is the job of mobile AA. Static AA does a great job in it's role as secondary defense against aircraft, and against helicopters is nearly as potent as mobile AA. If you want to lobby for something, lobby for mobile AA on the few maps that don't have it (at least the ones that don't have it but have jets, something like Sharqui with no jets doesn't need mobile AA).

                2. That would require a much better HUD system to allow targeting of bombs from altitude. Now, I don't think very highly of people who just fly bombers and think they are hot **** because they rack up lots of kills, you could train a chimp to fly and get kills with the bombers. However, people that have learned to be effective at ground attack in the fighters are using more skill already than if they just flew high and level and used a real targeting system to drop their bombs.

                3. AT is not effective in a lone wolf role. It is highly effective if used properly in a squad the way it is intended.

                4. Helo's could probably do with a boost either way, they have really taken a beating. If anything I would boost jet and helo armor, but also boost AA damage so it still takes the same number of missles to kill each. That would keep the same balance we have now with aircraft and AA, but would make helos less vulnerable to jet cannons and small arms fire from the ground.

I'm not against having AT get stingers, in fact I have suggested it in the past. I do agree that if they do they should be skill based and require aiming rather than just fire and forget. I just don't completely agree with your reasoning on all of your above points. Truthfully though, after all we have been through with AA I will be happy if they never touch it again. The missles fly correctly now, and surface to air poses a very real threat to most pilots.

I've been saying that the AT kits alternate unlock should have replaced the AT missile with a Stinger/Grail for a long time.

If you took out the heat seeking, it would be just as easy to take aircraft out though. Look at how easy it was in DC.

The heat seeking code in general should just be fixed in general to get rid of aberrant behaviour. If they did that, you could probably have a looser lock and still get a good chance of hit/miss that is acceptable, which would be great for a ground AA kit.

                    Re: AT + Stingers = Helo/Plane solution.

what I think they should do is give the AT class an AA implacement that they can setup anywhere to use. Then they could pick it back up and move on once they were done or to go get more ammo. I do think it should be homing though because manually would be impossible to take out a jet. It's way to fast. Yall remember the mortars we had in BFV somthing like that but for to take out air threats. Anyone else agree?

nah then u would get them spammed all over the place. If they were un-guided then i can see it having some kind of use. then its a skill and only people with an eays shot or those who practice will use it.

tell me how its possible to hit a jet going as fast as it does with a manual missile?

You never played Desert Combat, did you?

You'd be amazed at how easy it was to hit aircraft with those things. With manual missiles, it doesn't/didn't matter what direction they were flying, just as long as you had enough brains to lead your shot in the right direction. If they were flying completely perpindicular to you, it didn't matter, just aim ahead of him and fire away.

I don't think there should be hand held lock on AI. I think the AT class should get ONE rpg for taking out helicopters. So it would be aim, get the target in rpg sights, compensate for rocket drop, and fire. It should take skill to take out a good pilot rather than just pointing and having the computer do all the aiming for you. So if a jet were to fly slowly overhead you shoot the rpg at him and he gets 3 bars of health and starts to burn. For choppers it should be one shot takes 4/6th of health.

Handheld AA is a serious threat to balance in BF2, because there are no restrictions on how many people on a team can take the kit. I'd rather see more mobile AA (like an AA jeep), which can be regulated on a per map basis but still provides the necessary mobility.
