    Re: What Joystick to buy?

I JUST BROKE MY Wingman extreme. I had that thing for..... since the freaking joystick came out, I had it since Battlefiel 1942 and well how everlong ago that was. I use it constantly and Im not a gentle giant either, Sad thing is they dont make that one anymore its totally diffent its like wingman force or something.

K.I.S.S - Keep It Simple Stupid

GET one with Twist handle, throttle, and atleast 6 buttons and your set. Im looking at the new ones comming out and you can pretty much not use a keyboard or mouse. 12 buttons hell thats as much as I use on my keyboard.

Go get one you like TRy it right away and if you dont like it for any reason bring it back that night. Just tell them you dont like the way it work or program sucks.

The wireless version of the Logitech is called the Freedom. That's the stick that I use and it's never let me down. I hear that some people have had reliability issues with it. I haven't had a single one. Be sure to use the Wingman software and give yourself a 5% dead spot in the middle on both the X and Y axis.

        Re: What Joystick to buy?

I'm in the "Logitech Extreme 3d Pro owners whose j-sticks won't calibrate properly" group.

I love the joystick but can't stand the calibration problems.

I replaced it with a Saitek Evo, which is good, but just doesn't have the smooth feel of the Logitech.

If anyone is having problems with their Logitech, try the clear calibration utility first, then DXTweak2 to adjust the calibration if it won't self cal.

Great Logitech support can be found on the wingman team web pages....

Excellent work, Ghost. I have the Extreme 3D Pro. It's o.k. But they have ****ed me off a couple times. I find their Customer Support quite weak.

I took it apart and the potentiometers are so incredibly low grade it really ticked me off. Logitech also refuses to send me replacements for them, even though I could easily swap them out myself. So... since I hadn't bought that stick in the first place I decided I wasn't really out any money, so I went and got the corded version at Circuit City. I paid $40 and also got the 4 year coverage plan for like $10. Now, every time their cheesy potentiometers wear out (about every two months) they replace it with a brand new stick. So screw you logitech, you could have sent me a $0.50 part and I would have been happy, but now I will get roughly 6 free joysticks a year for four years.

Moral of the story, get the stick, but get the coverage plan also so you can stick it to logitech.

I would recommend the Logitech Extreme3DPro as well. (Some stores, like BestBuy, will sell you a Extended Replacement Warranty. I think this 5 or so extra dollars is worth spending. They offer a two year replacement for faulty gear, and if you use your stick lke i do, I go through them about every 3 to 6 months. The Replacement Warranty comes in handy. I've used it with BestBuy and not had any replacement issues. They have always hooked me up.)

I've used the Saitek as well, but find it breaks down after a few months of use. For me, the rudder controls most often fail first with any of the sticks I have used.

No left handed version, bro. Sorry.

That saitek x52 looks pretty sweet but it takes up as much space as a real cockpit...lol It's probably a great stick but it has too many features that this game will not use...

I just purchase one of these and was wondering what sentivity settings I should put one for the joysticks?

Yeah i agree about the satiek look awesome but not practical to have alongside your mouse and keyboard for when you jump in a plane.

As for the joystick no left handed version? :|

I gues as usual i'll just have to find a generic stick useable for both lefties and righties

I used this stick as well and found it hard to get use to--the buttons were to close together and difficult to get use to--and my right rudder went out after about 3 months of use. I thought about trying to return it to the store I bought it from, but i decided not to do it with the 90 limit reached.
I did not have a great deal of cash to burn on a new stick, but did have enough to buy the Logitech Extreme3DPRO from BestBuy. After using the Saitek I found the Logitech Buttons a little tricky to remember, but before long the buttons became more comfortable and then GAME ON!

**If you can front the 5 to 10 bucks more when purchasing a new stick, and if the store has a 1 or 2 yr Extended Replacement Warranty, be sure to buy that as well. I have found the Extended Replacement Warranty comes in handy after several months of some nail bitting air battles. I find the rudder controls go out of most of the joysticks I have used.

                            BestBuy - Denver, CO.
                            Logitech3DPRO = 41.99
                            Extended Replacement Warranty = 8.99
                            Sales Tax = $3.19
