  • Ac97 & Eax

I've just installed BF2 and updated to the latest patch. WHen I chose Audio Renders Hardware and EAX I get sound problems. It's as if all the sounds being made by every gun, plane, etc are right next to me. So there is son direction or distance effect.

When I disable EAX I get crackled chatter.

Anyone know if I can fix this? I'm running an ASUS AV8 Deluxe which has onboard AC97.

    Thinking about getting a X-Fi

I've got 5.10.0.5990 and I can't find anything higher. Realtek don't have much on their site.

Hummm, might have to get a card. I updated to the latest drivers and it still does the same.

              Is the X-Fi the best?

Yup. The best there is right now (and will be for a while).

Go for the X-Fi Xtreme Music if you don't wanna spend a lot of money..that's the one I have. Don't let the name fool you .. it's a gaming audio card.

creative also sells refurbished cards on ebay. i got an audigy 2 zs for $50 shipped that way. it has 7.1 (for movies), and unless you have ears like a farkcing bat, my guess is that you won't be able to tell the difference between an audigy 2 zs and an x-fi.

except that the name "x-fi" sounds badder a$$...I guess.

                  happy shootin', tex

I went from a Audigy 2 ZS to a X-Fi Fatal1ty, about a 20% increase in quality (best I can quantify). But it's well worth it.

Did everyone mis this? Set it to software and not hardware. Your onboard can't do hardware sound.

                        Sorry, yeah..I missed it

I was focused on getting the guy to get an X-Fi card and solve all of his audio problems

I've noticed that since you got one.

Speaking of th X-Fi, did you bite bullet and get the retail, or did you manage to find someplace that had it OEM?

Have yet to find OEM...went with retail. $150CAD was the best deal I could find at the time.

if I set to software wont I get a big dip in performance?

                              Lucky I just overclocked CPU.
