Could someone suggest some good lan mods? We're only about 8-12 ppl so even normal 16 player maps are a little large. Are there any players vs. bot mods/smaller maps, or any other mods that might work for a small lan?

I don't think anyone is working on smaller maps, most people who play SP/co-op want the SP maps to be larger. Just to be sure, are you aware of how to set up co-op? Start an SP game and others can join by ip address (there's also a workaround if 'join by ip' is not available).
