I've only noticed this in a few maps so far ( like the Euro-force "Great Wall" map, the Special Forces "Warlord" map, and Sharqi) , but since it could apply to battlefield universally, I'm posting it here.
I know most servers turn friendly fire from mines off, and if there's one person who hates people who punish for their own stupidity, it's me. However, in any infantry heavy map, half of any team is snipers. Without friendly fire on mines, even a sniper with the IQ of a retarded loaf of bread is garunteed two free kills by randomly placing a claymore somewhere. I played sniper and that's exactly what happened. The second I spawned I dropped one claymore, then another a few meters away, and soon enough I got two kills. It was dull and not very satisfying, but I needed to do it to keep a half-way-decent score.
Now, as I said, I hate people who punish for their stupidity, and many people probably say "Yay! Take that! We win, smacktards!", but if we have become so frustrated by those who punish for running over our mines that we've been driven to create a crappy gameplay experience, are we really the ones who have won?
Snipers are annoying enough as it is. They turn the game into a UT dancing contest in any outdoor fight because the second you stand still to take cover, you get sniped. But when they can place claymores anywhere and get free kills without teamkills, it's just over the top.
Okay, before you respond, read below. The most likley responses I'll get have been pre-answer below:
"OMG! OMG! Stop whining and do the same!"
I have been doing the same when it gets frustrating enough, but I payed for a game with 7 kits, not 1. Once one kit becomes too powerful the game is forced to lose its variety and ability to strategically adapt to the situation.
"Stop yoru whinning and adept and overcom you bg crybayb kidy!!!!!!!!2"
Why don't you adapt and overcome to people who disagree with you by putting up a decent argument or avoiding the thread (or, perferably, human contact) altoghether
"You are just th3 whinnin cus you we're owned!"
Read my post so you have the slighest idea what you are talking about before you responding. I specifically said I played sniper and was able to get kills, but it was dull.
"But then everyone blocks the exits to the base! Thats' why it's okay to punesh those idioticic mind layers!!!!1 Hahaha! No new00b stands in t3h path ov hte 1337 terminanatorz!"
If you remember what the most basic laws of physics are and apply some primitive logic you'd realize these exits for your team are enterances for your enemy. Then again you probably already realized that if you were able to put toghether that (somewhat) logical sentence.
"Then don't play on infantry based maps"
As I said, I didn't pay for only infantry based maps, so I'd rather see all the maps capable of being fun.
Use pre-answered responses at your own risk.
What's the right solution to deal with people who punish for their idiocy after they run over your mines? I'm not sure, but it certainly isn't this, because I'd perfer friendly fire on mines. I don't even want to imagine what it will be like when people start doing the same with engineer class.
Your thoughts? Has anyone seen this on any other maps?
