x-fi settings

I just decided to buy a x-fi xtreme music card and 5.1 speakers. Im hoping this will lighten the load on my cpu and deliver rich sound. I dont have the card yet but when it arrives i want to know what settings are recommended.

What should be the settings for x-fi and bf2 options?

I think its more of a personal preference, but I have bass redirecting at 100hz, subwoofer gain, 24-bit crystalizer at 50%, EAX at 0 db, and an equalizer setting that raises the bass a lot and a bit on the high end. I really like having my subwoofer shake the room :)

Just be sure to install the drivers from Creative's website. You can install the drivers on the CD first, as they come with a better X-Fi Console, but you need to update to the new drivers to play BF2 with X-Fi and Ultra High.

edit: oh, and make sure you have the X-Fi set to Game Mode

i have my x-fi in game mode, trbel and bass at 50% each. 24bit crystalizer at 100% and Ultra High settings in BF2. Just remember if you have a good CPU and a fairly new mobo, the load wont be lightened too much and you wont get much FPS gain. its about sound quality not performance FPS wise.

Id love too know how u get to ultra high without major fps loss . Even on a 10 ping server i get 20-30 fps loss on ultra . Im in game mode , changed the open al wrapper , have my Pci latency at 64 ?

well. it shouldnt not lag at all, because it is dedicated to the sound, because it is not CPU bound, so losing fps on ultra high is not good. I do not know about PCi latency, i kept my mobo settings at default (excpet for my overclock of course) and shoved it in, installed it, and it works great. it is MEANT to play at ultra high.
"changed the open al wrapper" I do not know what you mean by that.
ill check my pci latency sometime today and tell you.
have you done any OCing?

does x-fi have to be set to gamemode everytime i play or does it stay that way? I heard about changing between entertainment mode and game mode.

before you play games, change it into gaming mode. or else you will have issues. plus it makes it much better.

so i guess it does not stay in gaming mode all the time right? It probably reverts back to entertainment mode after you exit a game?

no. the ONLY way to change the mode is manually. so before you play a game: change it into gaming mode. then after you finish, you have to click the changer again and put it back into entertainment mode. it DOES NOT do it automatically, remember that.

I just hope i don't have to reformat due to x-fi causing problems. I heard a bunch of horror stories on creative forums. But hope that was just caused by user error and not x-fi. Also i heard that the 2.0.7 drivers were awful. Did they release better drivers since then?

does the 2mb of ram on the x-fi use system memory? also will putting the sound to ultra decrease fps?

the only way I see it decresing FPS is if you have like 512mb memory. if you have at least one gig you're fine.

Now that i think about it the reason you can use ultra high is probly cuz your using the defalt OpenAl driver , here is how too update it -- http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic...&postorder=asc

I followed the threads on Creative also. My conclusion is improper install and a possible first run bad batch. You know they just started making them and some had flaws.

Also make sure you remove any old audio drivers and you'll be fine. I didn't get a change in FPS at all, I play at all max with 2GB of RAM. I did notice a slight decrease in RAM usage however.

IMO I think headphones are the best with the X-Fi. With an X-Fi, you never get jumped from behind period. It's like having a radar all the time.

the x-fi fat1lity, plat, and elite are overrated right? I just got the xtreme music version, which does not have 64mb of xram.
