    Are you a Pilot?

These numbers are based upon the stats listed at statpadder.com.

Currently there are 54,716 players stats listed there. Of these 54,716players listed, these are some stats about "AVIATORS"

6% of the list have 0 kills as a pilot

12% of the list have 5 or less total kills

16% of the list have 10 or less total kills

30% of the list have 50 or less total kills

37% of the list have 100 or less total kills

75% of the list have 1000 kills or less

Then there are the real pilots

Only 1% have over 10,000 total kills

only 2.5 % have over 7,500 total kills

If you think..... "well if you fly a lot you will kill a lot of people". And that doesn't make you a pilot.

    Then there are more numbers.
If you also compare those same statisitics along with the K/D ration "on average" this is what you will see.

35% of the list have a K/D of less than 1

Only 1% have an average K/D over 10

    And only 2% have a K/D average over 7.5

Which suggests there is a direct connection between the total number of kills, i.e. SKILL and how many people that pilot is going to kill vs getting killed.

Another interesting trend is the Kills per minute.

    This is another average, but way harder to judge. There is a relatively small margin in the kills per minute ratio;

Only about 8% of the list "on average" kills at a rate in excess of 1.75% That means from the time these pilots take off, they are actively seeking any target they can find as opposed to flying around, avoiding enemy aircraft, aa, and looking for soft targets.

As you continue to go down the list, the kills per minute continue to decrease.

So, if your team is loosing; before you try to help your team by getting in an aircraft maybe you should go check your stats. Maybe you should be manning an AA battery instead.

    Re: Are you a Pilot?

you can post anything you want to make you look like a good pilot.

but i'll still shoot you down.

but oh wait - i don't have over 10k kills. Well maybe i'm too busy keeping the air safe then bombing the carrier.

is that a good flame? did i do good?

besides - you can prove ANYTHING with statistics. 63% of people know that.

    wtf is your point anyways?

I'm definitely not. I just gun in attack helicopters and bombers.

Can fly a little, keep meaning to get good at it but can never be bothered queueing for a plane or chopper.

          Re: Are you a Pilot?

I admit to having no skills in a jet, I think there are two sets of pilots, jets and helis. I was looking to see if the stats differentiate but I dont think it was mentioned.

Also I agree with troybob, it totally sucks to get raped by enemy air while your own jets are off strafing infantry trying to pick up kills for themselves.

"30% of the list have 50 or less total kills"
ANd there are over 1.1 million accounts in BFHQ, many I imagine are the same person with multiple accounts, only ~54k in this data sample for the above quote, point is if you are listing your stats on an outside website you probably are not the biggest newb out there, I wonder what the stats for piloting are for the general population... they must be a lot worse

            Re: Are you a Pilot?

Man I don't want to have to look through 1.1 million stats, but if you have a link I'll go look. I thought that 54716 was pretty low to start with.

Yeah these stats are just for jets, Those whappity whop guys have thier own stats.

BTW most good pilots will respond to chat messages. If you are getting raped,,,,, say so.

AND SPOT THE ENEMY AIRCRAFT AND THE ARMOR. A good pilot will check his mini map evertime he hears, "enemy whatever in sight" Its a target. And thats what hes looking for.

All things being equal there are very few edges in the air. But knowing where the enemy aircraft is before you go looking is a huge advantage.

Also another great tool for a good pilot is a commander who knows how to direct fire.
But thats rare even if you get them on voip and tell them to.

But regardless of what you do. Nothing you can do will help a noob pilot. He is flying for his pure enjoyment and could give a ratsass about his team.

            If all else fails type
            OUR PILOT IS FREAKIN WORTHLESS

            LOL

How many of your listed 'pilots' have just spawned at the carrier and, having no other form of transport have jumped into the jet. I know i've done it. (I'm no pilot and there is a vast difference between the majority of pilots and skilled aviators) It's a good way of getting killed quickly but it's also a good way of getting to the other end of the map quickly, something i think pilots should do. If it's all going wrong, say on Wake, or Gulf, and you are held at the carrier a pilot can go from running to the jet to the opposite ended base in 20 seconds. So they can take a base instead of just watching their teams air assets being raped by the coast hugging enemy.

An inteligent commander will recognise a (good) pilots ability to make the enemy think before armour-rushing everytime a tank or APC spawns. It will make them want AA cover and less likely to just run at a target.

This is imperative. Air combat is so much easier if it isn't blind. I try to do this as much as i can, if say, i see two helis 'dogfighting' (it's not what the helis are there for) then i know if the enemy heli is unspotted our guy will be at a distinct disadvantage. Helis should be used to take out armour targets as well, and 8 missiles and a chain gun is more than enough to clear an area before the troops go in.

I've never experienced this! As far as i'm concerned if a pilot is raping the carrier, then telling them so will only inflate their ego and cause them to do it more!

Good thread by the way. 5 stars.

You can't use k/d ratio to determine the skill of a pilot.

Being teamkilled out of your jet by an m95 a$$hole counts as a death.

Let me put it this way.

If I get tked 5 times while in a jet, go and get 30 kills and don't die at all, I probably have alot of skill....but my k/d ratio would only be 6/1?

                    So....you can't really say that.

To be a REAL pilot, you have to actually fly planes, and it wouldn't hurt to have a pair of these...

Alcorr I'm not making the assumption based upon K/D.

I am making the assumption based upon TOTAL kills.

K/D ratio is just another statistic that supports the assumption. On average the higher the players total kills are the higher thier K/D ratio is.

What you say might be true if we were talking about one person with say 50 total kills.

Hell he could have a K/D of 50 if he got lucky the first time.

But, we are talking about over 800 people. in the top 1%
And in order to maintain that high of a K/D over 10000 kills says something about his skills
