    ADMIN explination

OK i am confused. Today I read a thread which had a link to a video which showed some idiots exploiting a bug in the game.

As a clan member that has 2 servers in the clan it is good to see things like that because it makes me aware of the ways people cheat. If now we see something that looks like that happening on one of our servers we can ban the people doing it.

The thread was closed by Talus with this message...

"Don't keep posting this crap..the thread was already deleted once.

    You've been warned."

could you explain to me why this was? I see that these videos benifit server admin in knowing what to look for. Without these posts we would never know what we are dealing with when something like that happens.

Did you close the thread and remove the link because you are one of the guilty people or do you have other reason for it?

I am not picking a fight or anything I am just curious so I can understand this forums rules and reasons behind things.

TALUS is a moderator an dosnt agree with hacks/glitches so hes right to close the thread,
but i do agree as admins we do need to see what the new hacks/expoits are so we can keep an eye open for them as i to am a admin in are clan server.
talus me old chum i think you should make an thread with a password if possible just for admin owners to see the exploits which are causing a nightmare on are servers at the moment.
i mean at the moment people are jsut waisting money on servers when there being exploited by gamers.

i think that Talus just does not want any exploits to be advertised or viewed, which is very understandable.

understandable in that u dont want them gettin credit for them but warning people of them and showing publicly what cheats are out there will help bring them to a server mods attention sooner surely?

i think the ppl of the community should also be made aware of such things that effect their game....of course links to any hacks or programs should be ommitted, as they are irrelevent, along with any how-to explainations...the only thing that should be disclosed in such a post, is what we, the community are to look out for, so that we may effectively report it....if we see it in an unadmined server

Yes I agree. We have rules on our web site similar about not postinglinks tohacking sites or methods of exploiting.

Even though the video does show people exploiting it does not show how they exploited. As in it does not show people how to use that exploit.

I suppose though it does allow people to see where there are problems and many will try to emulate that so in a way I can understand his thinking behind deleting it.

I think the idea about a password protected area for admin to read up on cheating methods is a good idea but you do have a problem of bad admin and there are many of those about :)

if that were to occur, a password protected admin section, that exposes all the hacks/cheats/exploits.....i think it would only be fair for an admin to inform us of "what to look for" so if an admin is not around/busy, or if the server has no admin, we can take our screenshots and head over to bf2rs for a report.....without knowing what to look for, we allow these people to continue on unhindered

u dam morons. if someone shows you how to cheat - it shouldn't be on a legit site.

if you want to know how to cheat - then go somewhere else.

what IS legit is to say "i saw this and i think its a hack" but not give specific details (maybe a simple screenshot of the result of the hack - but not the specifics). ALso - maybe you should tell EA - not the world. That's like saying "i have a perfect way of killing president bush", and then detailing your plans. Probably not a good idea. In fact, the NSA is probably wire tapping me illegally now.

If you can' understand that - well then i don't have anything more to say to you.

And whats this "well why can't they get credit for finding the hack". Um - since when are there credits for people who exploit the code? Those people are vile if they post it like this. They are heroes if they keep it to themselves and alert the proper authorites.

It's like saying "I know who Buffalo Bill is. He's Tim Irons. Yep - I found out and I am cool" Then other people are like "Um - have you told the cops?".

There are a lot more wanna be cheaters on here who will go out and try these things, especially when they are detailed with video "proof" etc. then there are sever admins who want to know what to look for. We do not condone the solicitation of hacks/exploits nor the sharing "reporting" of them.

If you want to keep upto date on hacks and glitches, check the BF2RS Hall of Shame, or punksbusted.com.

He probabbly deleted it because everytime someone hears about something new they post it a hundred times in the forums.

I believe the info of glitches and exploits should be shared with the community, so we know what to look for. The main reason alot of exploits produce such great rewards for the person using them is because the majority of fair players don't know they are there, because they don't look for them, abd therefore more people get away with the exploit...

Yes, some wannabe cheats may take the info to use for bad deeds, but if everyone knows about the exploit, surely a cheater can't benefit from it; at least not as well as if no one knew of the exploit...

But my views may be warped. I am an American so i have learned to deal with things like - the fact that anyone can find instructions to bomb making and drug making in the USA, because it is protected under free speech, even though some bad people, like Timothy McVeigh, and Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris of the Columbine shootings, can get the info and use it for bad deeds. Free Speech has its risks and supposedly it is better than what you could get under many other political -isms ideologies.. Who knows, liberty over security..

i think its important posting what "we should look for" to easily spot and report these ppl....i know ive got about a million deaths in BF2 that i cannot explain...and if i new what to look for, i could have prolly spotted, and reported a few illegitamate (sp?) kills...

i think its just as important to not disclose any information that is not required to spot hackers/exploiters/cheaters....information like, where to aquire it (if a hack, or program), or how to use it...or who was caught with it.....as that is not relevent to detecting and reporting

believe me, i keep my eyes open for such activity, and stat padding too so ide appreciate being informed on what is suspicious so i can report or not

The reason why the thread are closed is because they were not real hacks. They are all single-player maps playing against bots, no punkbuster involved. That's why it's pointless to keep whining about some "omg haxxors!!!" when it's not the case.

These threads are as annoying as the "BF2142" Mech videos that keep getting posted.
