    Strange A2A behaviour

Recently I've had sme strange experiences in a jet, resulting in my poor performance.

    1. The missiles sometimes blatantly miss, even while the target is flying in a straight line. They chase the target and when they're about to hit it they just swerve off the track.

    2. Sometimes I hear the firing sound, lose missiles, but they just don't come out as if I never fired them.

    3. Occassionaly, when I've got someone on my tail, I deploy the flares, only to be hit by missiles a second later, the missiles completely ignoring my flares.

What can be the reason? Has it something to do with the client-server relation? It's making me useless as a pilot :/

Nope, ping below 100 (70-80 i think), it was smooth.

And about the blatant misses (when the missile acts as if not locked on), it usually happens when I'm locked on a chopper, but fly too close to him. What I was talking about, however, is that sometimes my missiles act normally, but sometimes they chase the target and act as if they lost lock, even though they would normally hit. A few minutes ago, after wasting rockets on a turning jet (they should hit anyway, it wasn't a tight turn), I shot my last one when the jet was flying straight. The missile started chasing him and in the last moment curved upwards and flew over him.

      1. Yeah it's annoying, just something that happens.

      2. Are you 100% sure they didn't fire? Were you in a hard turn when this happened? And where was the target on your HUD? Given certain angles of attack the missles will not get a proper lock and will just fly straight ahead, and if you are pulling back at the same time you will not see them because you are pulling away from their line of flight.

      3. Yeah this happens, it might be intended. Flares just present the guidance system with multiple heat sources. The system will still pick one of those sources to lock onto, and it is possible that it will choose the plane.

I have noticed these things too since 1.21 was released, it's not just you.

I assume that it's very difficult to write the behaviour code for A2A missiles, so they are having a hard time getting them to behave as they were meant to.

Since 1.21, missiles release as 'dummy missiles' even when you have a definite lock on a jet that isn't even trying to evade. This seems to happen about 25% of the time.

As for flares, it seems to be totally random whether or not they work.

Also, I've seen the issue where the missile is tracking the jet, and it's practically UP his @ss, and then it just sort of gives up and goes somewhere else.

Overall though, the missiles are behaving much better than in 1.2

I still prefer the old 1.12 missiles though

I was chasing a j10 yesterday, no matter what i did, no missle would even come close to it. Not even if the piolet had relased all flairs and flying stright. Its like he knew and still flew straight. Once he got on my tails, both missles would always hit, no matter what i did, F35 < J10 :/

Yes, missles in this game are bad. Watch these demos of this match of Strike|Danny, especially in rd2, 3 in the jet. The missles will come real close looking like they'll hit, then they just bounce right off. gg?

I'd rather have the missiles less random. Too often the odds are against me :P

My biggest gripe is the difference in a2a missles between jets. It seems as the mig has 1.2 missiles and the f35 has 1.12 missiles. Play a few rounds of Oman, on both sides and you'll see what I mean.

Its common sense when flying to use evasive maneuvers while deploying flares...

i once evaded all the missiles from an essex just by doing a straight barrel roll, i should of snapped a pic, it was awesome being upside down and seeing like 5 missiles streak right infront of me....

Today on a game of Surge I saw the AA missiles pull a 180 and do the zig-zag bug again. Looks like Dice didn't fix squat with 1.21.

WHen you are shooting AA at a jet or helo, make sure you lead the target a little bit. Fire one missile and wait a second then the other. Make sure that you maintain the reticle (cone) on the target. If the aircraft goes behind a hill/building for even a second it will miss. Timing is everything, be patient and happy hunting.
