my question: is there a way for me to give him the EF installer so he dosent have to d.l it.
and where can i find the files?

the easiest way to find what your looking for without telling you the exact path, would be to use the search in windows and search by created date.

im not even sure if this works. i think other people know!

how can DSL be crappy?
anyway, install it and find the files on your HD and put them on a disc. give him the disc, and read the FAQ at the top of this forum.

Very easily. depending on the quality of the copper lines in the area, how old they are, and how close you are to the junction.

I've had DSL that was so bad it was 8K up and 32K down. All because the plant was ancient.

Why not just tell him the full path? You can't 'unlock' it after you install it until you buy it anyway. Gamespy/EA has to allow you to play it regardless of if you install it or not. They add it to your registered account.

Don't know why it is so hard to tell you where the files are located. The files do not mean anything without the playername being associated with EF download.

The files are located by default at:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Downloader\cache\"whatever your ea account name is"

The "whatever your ea account name is", is the name you used to login to the ea site to purchase EF and not your gamespy/playername.

Copy the files in that directory to cd. Have you friend copy the files to his machine under his ea username directory. Then start the ea downloader.

Maybe I am a pessimist, but I don't think that you're simply going to be able to copy the files to his dowloader and have it work. Seems EA would have thought about this because if thats the case, it would be real easy to just get free copies.

Ea don't care if you give you friend the EF files or not. The copy protection lies in the fact that you can't play EF if your BF2 nick isn't linked to a EA.COM account which has purchased EF.
Just giving the files to someone isn't enough.

You don't need to copy the files to the downloader, that's not how it works. There is a setup.exe that comes with the other files that starts the install of the expansion. When you click the "install" button on the downloader all it does is shortcut you to that file. You don't need the downloader at all if you have the files, same idea as just backing the files up on CD and installing directly from that if you need to reinstall ever.

BTW- this would work for people in countries that aren't supported during the purchase process. If you have a friend in a country where it can be bought, have them buy a copy of EF under your account name and send you the files via a hardcopy or online through FTP or torrents or something similar. Of course it's pretty sad that you would have to go through that much work, EA should be doing a better job distributing.
