They are both good.
If you want long range choose PKM try to shoot in burst.
If RUn and Scream the MG.
I like MG more than PKM -

PKM is the squad killer at [medium] range & recently had an upgrade which allows single shot snipe as well as insta-prone close up death

totall difference.
Everyone has his special gun which he can use i use PKM for sniping MG for Karkand run and Scream :pComment

MG 36 is better for the discerning bunny hopper, but for the no skill guy who runs around a corner and instantly goes prone, you want PKM.
two solutions to having no skill, and they certainly work better than sniping, the othre no skill loser optionComment

It just depends on what mood youre in, I mean if youre like p***ed and you wannna shoot the crap out a somebody, PKM, if you feel like run, scream, drop, shoot and win, MG36

lol well then my friend, since 1.2, you can't jump and shoot at the same time. and turning the corner and going prone is actually IN FACT, i might just be wrong now, but at least 75% of the rest of these forum browsers and bf2 players would call that smart tactics. PKM by far....does more dmg and fires slower but feels more accurate.Comment

PKM if you're always going to be shooting at longer ranges.
MG36 for better short and medium range shooting, plus the flexibility of being able to do everything pretty darn well.Comment

I feel the MG36 is more long range and the PKM is more short range. But, I do agree the PKM does more damage, but less accurate.Comment
