Crash back to desktop upon launch

Hello,

I only encounter a crash back to the desktop, or more like a failure to launch the game, after I update it. If I install the game from the disc without installing any of the patches or, for example, Special Forces mod, the game works fine.
However, as soon as I apply any patch, including the newest 1.21 update, it just crashes back to desktop!
Please help, it's really frustrating.

I have a simiar problem, except even without the update it still occurs. Heres a qoute from the message I sent to support:

It ran perfectly for months on my X800XT, but upon the release of the patch, I am unable to get into the game. Not load a server, get into the game fullstop. I load the game, the screen goes black, and then it just cuts to desktop. I have the latest ATI drivers and have experienced no other problems in any other areas of my computer.

This coincided with the release of the patch, but started occuring prior to actually downloading the patch. I tried downloading and applying the patch, same problem. I tried reinstalling, with and without the patch, same problem. I've also tried the new 1.21 patch, yet encounter the same problem.

It would be nice if EA would at least recognize the problem and provide a response. I am having the same issues. My game ran fine until the 1.2 updates began. Have the problem with 1.2, 1.21, and 1.22, When I reinstall to the 1.12 update the game runs fine.

All right guys...I talked with EA today. They suggested I completely (I mean completely) uninstall BFS and clean the registry. I used UNINSTALLER (they have a trial version on their website good for 30 days...www.ursoftware.com). This cleaned my registry of BF2 data. I also went back and made sure all of my BF2 folders were erased and then rebooted my system.
I disabled my Norton Antivirus and Password Protector.
I then installed BF2 (did the reboot) and installed BF2 SF (I rebooted again).
Validated that BF2 worked (it did) and then installed the 1.22 Patch.
IT WORKS.
