Sticky Me: The EA Downloader crash on install and start fix

Ok, after about 12 hours of work, to include formatting and reinstalling windows, here is the fix that worked for me, and due to the general nature of the fix it should work for most anyone else having the same problem.

Problem: EA Downloader crashes on start up (either immediately after installing, or anytime there after when you try to run it) and you are running Internet Explorer 6...my specific error is pictured below (this picture is from another member of this forum, so I know I'm not the only one with this problem)

FIRST THING YOU NEED TO DO IS PRINT THESE STEPS OR COPY THEM DOWN, ONCE YOU GET HALFWAY THROUGH IF YOU MESS UP OR FORGET SOMETHING YOU WILL NOT HAVE INTERNET ACCESS TO COME BACK TO THIS PAGE

    The Fix:

*Have EA Downloader installed, but not running before running these steps:

    1) Click Start
    2) Click Run
    3) Type msconfig and hit Enter
    4) Click the "General" Tab
    5) Choose "Diagnostic Startup"
    6) Click the "Services" Tab
    7) Click and Checkmark "DHCP Client"
    8) Click and Checkmark "TCP/IP Netbios Helper"
    9) Click and Checkmark "Network Connections"
    10) Click "OK" at the bottom of the window
    11) Click "Restart" on the window that pops up

    *Windows will restart, then:

    12) Run EA Downloader (should already be installed)
    13) Login
    14) Download Euro Forces
    15) Install Euro Forces
    16) Log Off and exit EA Downloader
    17) Click Start
    18) Click Run
    19) Type msconfig and hit Enter
    20) Click the "General" Tab
    21) Choose "Normal Startup"
    22) Click "OK" at the bottom of the window
    23) Click "Restart" on the window that pops up

    *Windows will restart, then:

    24) Run BF2 and play some Euro Forces baby, yeah...
    25) ||BFA|| rules :)

Basically what this does is shuts off pretty much EVERYTHING that loads or starts when windows starts except the bare essential stuff needed for windows to run...then you enable your internet services so you can download...then obviously install...then the last thing is to turn everything back on again...this should work for pretty much everyone having the problems mentioned above...good luck guys/gals...

              You could also try this:

              1. Open Internet Explorer
              2. Select Tools then Internet Options
              3. Set Security and Privacy to default.

Since they used IE for the downloader it can be virtually ANYTHING that is messing with IE that is screwing with the downloader.

It could be altered privacy settings, cookies, network settings, firewalls, adblockers, spyware...ANYTHING. Why they used IE as an engine is beyond me...
