Splash In The Pan, EA Screws Up Again!
BF2 Booster Pack's DOA
BF2 Booster Pack's DOA
I don't have a problem with EA making money, nor should anyone, after all that's what business is all about. What I do have is a problem with the left handed approach to how these Booster Packs work. It seems that EA is so paranoid about someone stealing $10.00 from them, and has a total lack of understanding on how the BF2 Community plays their game.
When a Game Producer such as EA implements this type of overly zealous anti-theft protection of a product i.e. "Booster Pack" they are showing us just what they think of their own BF2 Community. The Players who showed good faith by buying the Booster Pack for $9.99 are the ones that are getting the shaft.
What EA has done is to tie the purchase of the Booster Pach to your GameSpy ID, i.e. the First Nick-Name you set up when you first installed BF2 way back when. Now, tieing the purchase to something like the CD Hash is ok by me, however how many Players use the 1st nick-name they set up on BF2? I am one who still uses my first, however I have 5 others as well. Here is the problem, you can only play the Booster Pack maps using that very First Nick-Name or the one you purchased the booster pack with. If you started a new nick later and have earned unlocks, and rank you will not be able to use that nick with the Booster Packs. In short EA has tied the Booster Packs to only one of your Nick-Names even when your the same player who paid them $10.00 for it.
This tells me just how dumb even a big Corporation can be about their own captured market, us, the BF2 Community. It's like Dad saying that you can use the Car tonight, but you can't have the keys. I really think they had a great idea on the Booster Packs, one that could make them money at $10.00 a whack, and I'm alright with that, but I now feel it's been so screwed by this only one GameSpy ID thing that it's now a dead program. All anyone has to do is visit the EA Battlefield Forums to see this. There are thousands of post made over the last 24 hours and 99% of them are negative. I bet EA thinks that all the player registrations are each a different player, and if so they are way off on how many people are playing the game. Better pay more attention to the CD Hash's EA.
The sad part is that the Maps are really good maps which will never make the main stream BF2 Community, and even the many thousands who purchased it in good faith will not have the chance to enjoy them. Simply put 99% of Server Admins will not place these maps on Rotation.
EA, you have a very small window of opportunity to save your Booster Pack program, and I'm talking about days if not hours. DROP THE GAMESPY ID THINGIE!
