    Downloader and Core error

Seeing as I have now had 3 PM's asking about this, I figured I'd post the fix (I had the same thing when I got EF early).

For anyone that is getting a Core error when they run the Downloader, if you have IE7 installed you need to uninstall it. I do remember seeing someone say they managed to get it to work with Firefox and not uninstalling IE7, but don't remember were I saw it, and they never did say how they did it.

    Re: Downloader and Core error

Just to add to this: I also was getting the core crash and had never installed IE7, I was using IE 6. I opened and closed IE a bunch of times, changed security to low while doing that and then randomly it just decided to work once. Just keep trying.

Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview and return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP
                # Click “Start,” and then click “Control Panel.”
                # Click “Add or Remove Programs.”
                # Check “Show Updates” at the top of the dialog box.
                # Scroll down the list to “Windows XP – Software Updates,” select “Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2Preview,” and then click "Change/Remove."

If "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview" does not exist, run %windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.e xe. You need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.
Hope this helps, it helped me with the "Core" error.

Did the first thing not work?

Windows XP – Software Updates - will create more sublists, scroll down, almost all the down for that list and it will show IE7, they are not in order

                      View Hidden Files and Folders

                      1. Open any folder in Explorer.

                      2. Choose "Tools" then "Folder Options".

                      3. When the multi-tabbed dialog box appears, select the "View" tab.

                      4. Select "Show hidden files and folders".

                      5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

                        Re: Downloader and Core error

I had the problem where it would not start after installation it created errors.

I restarted my pc and the ea downloader symbol appeared in the tray.
                        I connected to the net.
I right clicked on the tray icon and pushed login.
The box came up to my suprise.
Then I typed in my ea login name, but WITHOUT a space in it.
I had tried before to put my name as it is listed in the *forgot loginname* e-mail that the knobs sent me. But apparently it dows not accept spaces.:<

in add remove you have to select 'show updates'
then scroll down to the windows updates and it will be among them
