I don't hate EA but I hate their lousy testers and support

Just purchased the booster pack from EA and after it installed and started, I get this screen:

Something seems to be seriously wrong, so I thought it might be a corrupted installation, I restart the box, uninstall the EA Downloader, reboot and installed it again and reboot.

    And I get this screen:

Then I thought well, it is from EA, and we know their testers did not get well paid, so lets try the support, and here is all I found this piece of c**p about EA downloader issues in the FAQ, basically it says

    1) EA downloader is a piece of software, so if you have trouble, it not EA's fault, it must be something else installed on your computer, we don't know which one

    2) You can try to turn off these potential harmful programs by stop all the processes from the task manager (!!!)

    3) If stop process not working for you, try to turn off your security and stop all antivirus, anti spyware, and anti adware.

    Anyway its not our fault.

    Answer
The EA Downloader, like many programs, can be affected by other programs you may have running in the background. It may be best to end any processes running in the background that may be conflicting with the program.

To do this, please follow the steps below:

Hold the Ctrl and Alt keys down at the same time and hit the Del key once. This will in turn bring up a window called Task Manager. You will then see 5 tabs at the top, Applications, Processes, Performance, networking, and Users.
Click on the Processes tab. There will be a list of programs sorted into separate columns. One of the columns will be called Username.
Click on Username, this will sort the processes list by which program or system property is using them.
The only programs we will be concerned with are the ones listed under either Owner or your Windows log-on name. We do NOT need to change or alter any processes listed under Local Service, Network Service, or System.

The only two programs that we need running under your username or Owner are going to be Explorer and Tskmgr. All of the other processes running on your username will need to be ended.

    To do this:

Left click on the first process and click on End Process to close the program.
Repeat this process down the list only ending the processes next to your username or Owner, leaving Explorer, and Tskmgr.
Remember that when you re-start your computer, all of these programs will come back on running in Windows.

Once this is done try starting the EA Downloader again.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you continue to have this issue please try the steps listed below:

The EA Downloader is built on Internet Explorer, so browser security settings will affect how the downloader works. Often these security settings can prevent access to specific features that allow uploading or downloading files.

    To check this:

    Open the Internet Explorer browser.
Click on the Tools option from the toolbar.
    Click on Internet Options…
    Click on the Security tab.
Click on the globe labeled Internet.
Listed under Security level for this zone, adjust the slider to Medium, or if you are still unable to access the site adjust the slider to Low.
Warning: It is not recommended to leave your browser security settings at Low, and should only be adjusted to this level for testing purposes.
When prompted if you are sure, choose Yes.
Click on the Apply button to save your changes.
Also, spyware can affect the usage of the EA Downloader, Spybot Search & Destroy, and 'Ad Aware SE' to clean your system (available at www.download.com for free). Please try to download, install, update and use them to make sure your system is not affected by any spyware.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There have also been issues with the EA downloader and customers that use Earthlink's Total Access. Please temporarily disable the Earthlink Search Service for your web options in Earthlink's Total Access software. For instructions on this please refer to your Earthlink manual, or the Earthlink self help database.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, if you are still having issues, you may want to disable any other security programs you may have running. If you know how, you may want to add the EA Downloader to the Allowed or Exceptions List. If you need assistance configuring your security programs, please contact the manufacturer for more information

And I figured it out myself after spending 30 minutes research, I solved this puzzle by removing IE7 from the system. Well, it was indeed not EA's fault, it was Microsoft's, because EA implement EA downloader on top of IE6, if EA downloader not working, blame Microsoft.

I'm getting the same "core.exe" crash but i have never installed IE 7. I did what they said and closed all the apps down that didn't need to be there but it has not fixed it yet. Any ideas???

hmm, for some reason it just decided to work. I had IE open when it worked, I had it open earlier but it didn't make a difference then. I just lucked out finally

From the EA forums in the EA Downloader FAQ:

Q: When will the EA Downloader be patched to support IE 7.0?
A: This is planned for closer to when 7.0 is standard for the public. Update coming soon. Until this is updated users will likely see a core.exe error when they try to use the EAD.

EDIT NOTE: It is also here in the TotalBF2 Forums
