ive downloaded twice, ive changed the usernames, i even created a new account but ea insists i havnt downloaded it. any help would be much appriciated

This link will explain the issue. You are essentially not entering the gamespy nick (aka bf2 name) that you are trying to play with.

2. When purchasing it will ask you for your BF2 login nickname. Just enter the nick you want to apply EF to. You can change it later if you change your mind. This is sometimes called the GameSpy nickname or the BF2 nickname. Same difference. For example, if you play BF2 as Shawn then enter Shawn (not email) in the double field that asks for your GameSpy Nickname. Your GameSpy nickname is your BF2 name.


i have gone back to gamespy and changed it, but it says ive changed it 3 times already today and says i have reached the limit of 3 times per week

You should be changing the name you listed when you bought EF to match your BF2 name. This can be done inside the downloader. There is a text link on the EF image for that. You shouldn't ever need to go to GameSpy for anything.

ok i went to ea downloader and inside it says "edit gamespy nickname" i clicked that and it brings up the ea account and i changed my gamespy nickname to my bf nickname is this correct?
this is where it wont let me change the name again due to changing it to many times

Ah, yea, that is the right spot. I am investigating if we have any way to get GameSpy to lift that limit. I wasn't sure you were getting it in the right spot, sorry.

Shawn, can you tell me where you see a "text link on the EF image" on the screenshot? This is how it looks for me, and I have my player ID associated with it. But the login name in the downloader is slightly different to the login name I use in BF2.

I get this error over and over:


I have changed my gamespy nick to match the one in BF2 but it still won't let me download.

I inquired about this and it seems this should fix if you delete your download cache, found here: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Downloader\cache\accountname\

I recommend logging out of the downloader, deleting the cache, then logging back in. Cache is found here: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Downloader\cache\accountname\

Please let me know if this fails. I am not at all familiar with a 7049:0

Logged out, deleted the cache but it still fails.
There is an entry about this error on the german ea support site, but it did not solve the issue unfortunately.

I need to go get some rest, so I'll try again tomorrow.

This is totally ridiculous.

Is it case sensitive?

My ingame name is "Diabolikul", but my EA GameSpy ID is "diabolikul" (lower case d). When I tried to change my EA GameSpy ID to "Diabolikul", it said the name was already taken. Now, I can't change it for a week. Even if I could, apparently my name witha capital D is already taken.

Everything matches, EA has my $10 and I still can't play the game.

This was stupid on EA's part.

You've mingled your terms there.

ea account - diabolikul : Use this to login to downloader.ea.com and the downloader app.

gamespy/bf2 name - Diabolikul : When you buy, enter this when it asks you to enter your gamespy nickname twice. If you already bought, open the downloader and look for the link to change your gamespy nickname. You don't ever "login" with this name, you just enter it in the field as being the BF2 account this purchase applies to.

no, sorry, you got me wrong.

My ea account is cwhaley2000.

I load up ea downloader, enter that as my name and put in my PW. Then I click the link to "Change GameSpy ID" and it matches my ingame name 100% already. No reason to change it, right?

Still can't play.

gamespy account name: diabolikul
ea account name: cwhaley2000

Still can't play.

This situation needs to be addressed immediately.

I've also error code 7049:0

Since 4 hours I'm looking for a solution in the web. There are a lot of people with the same problem, but no one can help. And I never read that the solution of the german faq helped to this problem. The same error code occurs when I try to download an other file (i.E the patch 1.21) over the downloader.

-My Ingame Nick is "[uhd]lenny"
-Gamespy Nick is the same
-Username for Downloader is "lennytes"
(No Idea why so many different accounts are needed!)

Things I tried (without success):
-Replaced Router with a Modem to prove that there is no NAT Firewall problem
-De-installed Sygate Firewall
-redownloaded downloader and reinstalled it
-install downloader on my second pc

When I tried to create a new EA account with the same name that I use Ingame ([uhd]lenny), it complained that there are invalid characters in my nick. Could it be a problem with the characters "[" and "]"?

Hi Lenny,
Same problem here, I guess we're both from the same country. So we're destined to have the same problem.
Tbh, three of my buddies have the exact same error message we're getting.

I don't use any special characters in any of my accounts.
It is not a firewall/nat problem here. I've tried many different connection methods, all resulting in the same error.
I am using a netopia router in bridged mode. I use m0n0wall as a fw/nat.

My gamespy ID matches my BF2 username exactly. I already changed it.

Hope EA solves this one for us soon.

I wish more people would rise their voice about this. I know that many more have it. We need to let EA know that this issue hinders more than just one or two customers. Maybe a public statement to the swiss community or so...
