OK I can't get this working

what obvious step am I missing?

Ok believe it or not I can't get this flippin thing to work ...or possibly

I created a new EA account, bought the game then when I try to log in to ea downloader I get the login and/or pwd is incorrect. I have retrieved both from the 'Forgot my...' bit in case I was getting them wrong. I have typed in ( and tried pasting and copying) my details into EA downloader but when i press Log in I get the same invalid name and/or pwd!!!!!

It must match the Gamespy account or more plainly the same Login Name and password you use when starting up BF2.

That thread should clarify the process.

Your ea.com account does not need to match anything. It is just used to login to the ea downloader app and site. The gamespy nickname it asks you for is your bf2 name, same thing.

thanks for the link but to the best of my knowledge that is exactly what I did. Obviously I could be making a complete clown (edited for language ) of myself here and doing something obvious but I just can't get in. If IO retrieve my username and pwd to my email via the 'lost your...' bit then type in exactly what gets sent to my email into the EA downloader login I still get username and pwd not valid.:cry:

NOTE!!!!!

OK cancel the panic I got in, I didn't realise that although when i request my username via email it shows the spaces I put in, when you input the username into EA downloader it removes them. OOps....Thanks to all for your help
