How to get better

Hey,

I bought BF2 today and when I play online I seem to really bad, not sure why.

Before this I played CS 1.6 a lot and became quite good (relatively) so I don't think it's my accuracy that's weighing me down.

When I was crap at CS1.6 I spectated on the top players of whichever server I was on however I cannot seem to find a way to do this on BF2, which is a shame.

Excluding "Just play... loads", is there any other advice you can give which might improve my game.

Also, I can run Gulf of Ozman at 80+ FPS @ 1280x1024 yet only run Kirkland at 55+ FPS @ 1280x1024, is it just me or is Kirkland a more resource-draining map?

u can spectate, when you die just press "C" to cycle through your team players.

But u have to be dead, not hurt.

well, from what i can see, CS and BF2 are TOTALLY different. i used to play CS only before i got BF2...now i never play CS. i seem to to be better at BF2 as well....and when i tried going to play CS again i sucked even more than i did before.

you just gotta practice, get the hang of the game. find what you like and what you are good at...like kits, vehicles, whatever. like all games, there is a learning curve that you have to go at on your own pace.

after playing for a while, you will start to learn the maps, and know where you can plan strategies. also, try joining squads, if you are lucky you might get a good one that runs together. playing with a squad that actually acts like a squad can improve your game because you learn to work with others, as well as pick up ideas from your squad mates.

#1 suggestion I always make is to find a good squad that is working together. Then, follow your squad leader like a shadow. The people who step up and run a squad (a good one, anyway) typically will know what they are doing and you can learn alot just by imitating what they do. When they crouch around a corner, go prone, whatever, do the same. That's how I first learned when I was playing. Stick close with someone better than you and you will become better.

If you see a squad consistently making 'top squad' for the round, then try and get into that squad and follow them around and watch their tactics.

The best way to get better is to play with or against players better than you..then close you can get to those players to observe them the better...and the chances of you getting close to a good player on the opposite team is pretty slim

to get better, take some measures to stay alive longer, like always taking cover, stay in a decent squad, which has medic...try to get more kills by staying prone or crouching whenever you are not sprinting for cover...

the main thing is practice....ive been playing for about three months, and still hevent completely got the hang of it, im still learning alot each time i play....this game i think took me a lil longer to get the hang of....like when i would get in a fire fight, i would hit wrong buttons, accidently jump, or bring up the squad screen etc....i still get panic sometimes, and press wrong keys and die fustrated, or if im cappin a flag, and before it goes white, a teamate will run around the corner, and ide kill'm....cus i still panic like a noob :p

i call strike at karkand "stark at kirkland"....cuz i see so many ppl calling it kirkland, and i like to have fun with it....lighten up....map-name spelling is irellevent, and wont improve his game

Kirland yea, right ... I have playd BFV, MOHAA a and CoD online but when I started playing BF2 I was realy bad (KDR 0,8:hmm: ) but now I kick ass... just be patient and practise :)

The key to getting better is learning ways to outsmart your opponent.

BF2 is not about who has the best aim, its about who uses his/her wits better in the right situation.

Also feel free to use armor as much as possible, this also includes jeeps. People seem to stay away from the jeeps but its better than nothing. Anything to help you live longer is better than nothing.

Never be afraid to retreat. Sometimes you gotta realise that your enemy has the better position.

Another thing that helps me alot is that my semi autos are always set to single shot. This increases accuracy and stability ten folds.

Until you know the map always be on the look out. It can get annoying to be killed by someone only to realise they were right in front of you.

There have been several good thoughts here, mostly, squading with good players. Look at the map and see what squads see the most action and are together. Often if you hear your team taking a lot of flags, it is a good squad hauling ass.

I would also say, work on getting your mouse calibrated for better accuracy. The pitch and yaw, and the color of cross-hairs really helped my game come up. You should be able to quickly (and smoothly) get your cross-hair on someone without passing over them and having to realign for a first shot. Learn the timing rate of your shots if you are playing a weapon with 3-round burst. Recognize the kill zones too.

Listen to your surroundings and don't just run out into open fields of fire. Use cover when available and understand that you’re more accurate lying down then standing or running.

yip, i can vouch for that, i use mine in single shot, and jus keep tappn dem in the head....................ever since i started using it that way, its been easier, and i think more fun to use
