I'm pretty sure you can have a friend that owns SF to log in on your account and unlock them.

No, it is available as an unlock after the M95. YOu can then choose the L96. Special FOrces has NOTHING to do with it. There are like 13 thrads on this already. Have a look, use SEARCH !

I'm pretty sure you can unlock it without SF.

While the PC I play on has BF2SF on it, I haven't played it in ages.

I selected the unlock in Vanilla BF2, but you need to select the M95 first.

ohh and you cannot use the L96 in SF no matter what ...

I know you can't use it in SF, but I could have sworn that you needed SF to get any of the second tier unlocks. Guess I was wrong. :/

correction,you need 1.2 and SF(it has plenty to do with it)

i never had SF and i couldnt unlock the l96,even though i had the m95!!!!
so i went out and bought SF and was given 5 unlocks including the L96..

so all in all special forces has alot to do with it..........:)

If you own BF2 you get 1 unlock per rank after private. If you installed SF, then you get 2 unlocks for the price of one. All weapons have a tier value. M95 is tier one. L96A1 is tier two. To get any tier two weapon you must unlock the tier one weapon of that class.

Correct. You don't need to install or own SF, you just need to play it using your account for a few minutes (and have at least patch 1.12 installed). It is also true that you must unlock the M95 before you can unlock the L96 and that you can't actually use the L96 in SF.
