Does this sound right?

Hey all, I have a question.

I have a P4 HT, 1g mem, Nvidia 5500 PCI card (supposedly the best I can get for PCI?), and a 19" monitor.

I have to play on all low with resolution at 800x600.

Is that the best I should be able to, and are there better cards for PCI?

Sounds about right for that card.

uhm afaik P4 HT motherboards are PCI-E so ur 5500 isnt the best you can get, best would be something like a nvidia 7800 GTX or Radeon X1900XT if you hav the money to spend of course

Well I checked the specs from HP and it says only PCI slots. I have a PCI card now, so.....

It is a P4HT, but PCI.

I was talked out of a 700 dollar card I had in hand and was ready to buy because the dude said my PC wouldn't be able to use it. I'd think he wouldn't want to lose that money for nothing.

Thanks for coming out. Ever here of Dell of HP? P4's with HT have been out for how long now, 2 or 3 years?

i dispise dells so wouldnt exactly keep upto date about them, The HT technology is new, P4's hav been out for a couple of years yes i hav one of the original box's at home but their only branded as P4 (with basic pci/agp slots & ofc the cool rambus that never took off)

neways does your pc hav an AGP slot? if so what speed is it 2x 4x 8x

LOL, no AGP slot. I accidentally bought an AGP card first, lol. Strictly PCI, and 4 of those (including the one the unused 56k modem is in).

good pci cards are hard to find,, icant really find anything out there that will give you better performance than the card you hav its a dieing breed

why not try to find a bundle upgrade (processor/memory/motherboard sometimes they include graphics cards) to suit ur case that way you can salvage most of what you originally hav?

Yeah, that's my next step. Honestly I've pretty much decided to just keep everything the way it is for now and just buy a whole new rig at some point. PCIe, at least 2g mem, etc. Just easier that way.

ive plans for a new graphics card/mem down the line this rig was an xmas present prebuilt so atm i aint complaining ^^

I'm a bit ****ed because I was told this was the best available at cicuit city. If I'd known I could have gotten a much better one for a few hundred more I really would have. Stupid slalespeople!

AGP Card = Pretty Good

PCI E = Teh SeXxorz

It may have been for your budget. When did you buy this? If you just purchased it, there is a 2 week return period.
