    Re: ROE Update from EA/DICE

The punish function is totally abused. Its an idiotic requirement to have it on. Seriously EA must be blind.

Also whats the point of changing mines and claymores to allow ff off if EA turn around 1 month later and request that FF is on for mines? Seriously its just idiotic. If its standard to have FF on now its just another kick in the teeth for engineers.

          Zippor you missed this part..

Beyond the server configuration settings there are many in-game policies for ranked servers. We refer to these as the Rules of Engagement, and they are managed by EA and Combat Studios on the BF2 Ranked Servers site. Due to the dynamic nature of BF2 this is a living document and subject to revisions.

              Oh, just get over it.

This is no doubt a step taken due the the number of griefers that have been wracking up huge TK kills. They put that function in there for a reason, to limit the amount of damage a griefer can do before he finds himself kicked out on his arse.

Punish does nothing to your score. Hopefully we all know that by now.

The R2 server is now running an interesting script that displays how many times you've punished and/or forgiven TKs. All by itself, it seems to have cut down on the punish mashing. Combined with admins who get a little growly when they see someone with 6 punishes/no forgives, but hasn't complained about griefing and you've got a perty good system.

Besides, they said you have to turn the function on... they didn't say you can't turn the threshold to a stupidly high number.

              Dude... it's just a suggestion.

There's been lots of complaining about claymore spam. Turning FF on for mines gets rid of that complaint.

                Re: ROE Update from EA/DICE

You know some players should have been straightened out by thier parents a long time ago. (you know who you are) I like the TK system and having the right to choose yes or no. I do dumb stuff during game like running across the street from cover and getting ran over by an APC. IMO thats easy, no punish-my bad. I have had some people get in a vehicle and hammer the gas TKing 2 or 3 people in the process, the say thier sorry? BBzzzzzzt, wrong answer, Time to punish. You should be more careful and try to keep TKs down. I have about 350 TKs and over 600 hours playing time, some people have that many TKs with about 200 hours playing time. Sad.
I like the addition and hope there are few problems implementing the change. . . . . .Red

Nowhere in that does it say the words 'guide' or 'lines'. Though I do see 'policies' in there.

And why state there was a confirmation on this matter on a forums if you're not going to link us to it?

Thanks for the update IndianScout, I've informed the server admins I'm in contact with.

because i cannot find the thread where a user emailed EA and received a response along the lines of there are some good guidelines for extra rules to be run on ea servers. although they are NOT required.

Note the suggestion of Friendly Fire being on, note the bad feeling towards FF off servers which are legitimate. People will automatically turn on ffs now because of whiners on about claymores. Next they will start bitching about that like they bitch about the FF off servers. Besides if people cant avoid claymores they need to start using their brains. They were already reduced to two per person.

The punish function, well that gets people kicked off servers when they dont intentionally tk. Last time i was flying, yes i ****ed up it was early in the morning I TK'ed 3 or 4 people when I missed a tank, they all punished of course even though i was trying to help them. I got kicked off the server.
I have no doubt it will happen again.
If they make it a requirement to have obvious contacts for server admins on server message then this should not be a requirement. Granted admins cant be around all the time but then you could email them a screenshot and get them banned. God forbid join another server.

By the way the punish message has been around a while on one of my regular servers, its done nothing to reduce punishes, you still have idiots who always hit punish no matter what. Its become a tool for assholes to **** other people off and for that alone it should be removed. It doesnt serve its function well. Surely they could implement something to kick someone after 4 TKs or are they just too lazy ?

                          Re: ROE Update from EA/DICE

I agree with all the changes EXCEPT the mines FF should now be on, i forsee hundreds of TKs as people are used to mining now, surley it would be better to limit mines OR seperate claymore/mines and have FF on for claymore and FF off for mines.....

The Engineers have only just became well used classes again (not just tank drivers like before) and the game is better and more fun/challenging for it IMHO..... the claymores have got a bit out of control though my suggestion is to make the claymores takes a few seconds to "deploy" so they cant use them offensivly so easily.

                            Enable autopunish.
                            Set threshold to 4.

                              Re: ROE Update from EA/DICE

Though it is not required, EA requests that all servers run Friendly Fire at 100% for all settings, including mines (sv.friendlyFireWithMines).

The key phrase here in bold obviously means that FF doesn't have to be on for anything including mines.

I would like to see claymores and mines separated so you could choose ff off for land mines and ff on for claymores. Or better yet just bring back the ability to blow up claymores then the problem wouldn't be as bad.

The tkpunish "has to be on" though I really don't get. When the new BF2CC comes out we were going to setup a max negative score a player could reach and then they get kicked and turn off the tkpunish system altogether. It only gets abused and only serves a purpose for auto admin, especially designed for EA servers where there are never or rarely an admin on. The tkpunish system really only ****es people off in the end because the majority of players have page down syndrome or it gets abused by people standing in front of vehicles then punishing and trying to get a person kicked from the server.

Remember the ROE is a living document so input from the community can lead to changes being made. I suggest if people or admins want something changed then participate in the ROE constructive discussion. http://www.bf2rankedservers.com/foru...ead.php?t=4130

                              Thanks for the update IndianScout.
