where is the bottleneck in my machine?

    Hello everybody

I have some serious confusion with bf2..
here are the specs of my machine:

cpu: barton 2.6+ overclocked at 200MHz fsb (it should be like 3.4+ or similar)
    mb: via kt880 (Asus A7V880)
    ram: 1GB dual chanel ddr400
    video: nVidia 6600GT (550/1150) AGP 8x with 128gdd3
    hdd: 2x80 sata raid strip
    sound: onboard (soundmax chip)
    psu: 450Watt (i beleive its 400 really)
    monitor: ibm 21" crt
    os: windows xp sp2
    game: bf2 1.21 :)

The main problem is the frame rate. I get about 35-40 fps, at any resolutions and quality settings. There is no difference between default 800x600 medium quality and 1280x960(1024) medium quality. The frame rate is the same... I have tried disabling shadows and dynamic lightning, but no effect - fps are still weak.
I could not understand how the fps at 800x600 are the same at 1280x1024????! Where is the bottleneck?? why 800x600 = 1280x1024?
i also have tried differnt drivers 81.95, 82.xx beta versions - its the same.

I have played bf2 in my friend on another machine - p4 3.2; 2gigs ram; ati9800pro 128megs - it was much better and smoother, about 60 fps at 1280x768 (it were widescreen monitor) on medium details. So he has weaker video than mine, but plays better...
his cpu is stronger, and ram is twice .. but isnt it video card most important?

I dont know what to think anymore.
Need advices.. what is wrong in my machine

    10x in advance

Many, many people also recommend 2gb of RAM. I think that is why your buddy is getting the better performance.

The onboard sound is certainly also part of the bottleneck. An Audigy2 or better card will help free up other system resources, as well as sound better.

First things first it is imposible to get a 6600GT at 950! FOR CORE! since your 6600GT is AGP I even find it a bit hard to think that you got the mem up to 1150 (since the AGP version is 500/900) since heat will be a big issue. Get rid of all your overclocking and then see how BF2 will run, you will not be able to run BF2 on high with only 1GB of ram. BF2 depends on your video card and memory the most, and if you dont have enough ram then your HD becomes a factor and then you acces your HD for more "system ram" which in turn causes "thrashing".

oh my god :) it is type mistake it is 550 i wanted to type :)) not 950
check this out http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4656714 it runs fine at 550/1150
i also used riva tuner to check if it really works on 550/1150

the drop is after quiting the game

the clock is ok i have really tested the pc for stability with overclocking

Re: where is the bottleneck in my machine?

the thing is, with those specs, 40fps is actaully pretty good. The main bottleneck though, is the processer. But its not toooo bad of a bottleneck.

only if, your GPU sucks, your processer sucks, and you're trying to play on high audio lol.
