How do you guide TV missiles?

I can't hit anything but sitting ducks with it. Come to think of it, I really don't know how to guide TV missiles. I just move my mouse around and hit the mouse button and sometimes it seems to have an effect. Anyone have the proper techique for guiding them perfectly? I've seen lots of people that can nail moving choppers with ease and I am always a bit irked by how easy they can guide their missiles.

Keep clicking on what you want to kill and it'll adjust and hit it.

Use the remote, unless you lost it again.

aim at target, click once to fire, click again to re-aim, repeat if necessary.

I find that if your new at it, its better to get the crosshair right on the target, or just at the front of it if its moving, then fire and dont try to steer it.

When you hit a moving chopper at a far distance, thats the trigger that puts the :) on your face.

I find that clicking the missile once every second or so gives me the best results. I used to click furiously thinking that would guide my missile better because of a better 'refresh rate' so to speak, but it just made me lose my aim more often than not.

I'm quite competent with the TV missile now, I won't say I'm an expert because I've seen people with 90% hit rates with the TV missile, myself I'm about ~75% against armor and ~50% against choppers using this 1 adjustment per second technique.

A good pilot is very important too, if he lines up the targets good for you it makes it a lot easier.

I never knew you could click. I thought you had to aim it like an AT missile.

I wish it were like that. The current system seems kind of stupid but I suppose it's there for balancing purposes since one TV missile can destroy practically anything in the game.

Yes, a good pilot is probably more important than your aiming/clicking skills. Very few pilots put you in a position to use the missle effectively. They're usually more concerned about lining up their own rockets or flipping all over the place.

Half the time when I switch to the TV view, all I see is sky or the ground.

While there are pilots like that, I find that more and more are getting smarter and actually realise the value of a good gunner.

I had a very good pilot the other day on Oman, he lined me up perfectly for TV shots on armor and choppers, I ended up with something like 30:5 KD and everytime I partnered him in the chopper I got the gold.

When I get a crap pilot though I'll be lucky to get a 1:1 KD, either he'll crash every minute or he won't understand the threat of AA and get blown out of the sky.

Sometimes when I'm desperate I'll go solo in the chopper and switch to the gunner seat to fire off a TV. It's actually not that hard, just aim a bit to the left of the target before you switch as the chopper spins to the right the moment you switch seats.

I pilot the chopper a lot and I'm pretty good at lining up TV shots and helping the gunner help me but that fact really annoys me.

Well, that is not the gunners fault anyway, it's the way the stats are calculated. Kill = 2 points, assist = 1 point, it's pretty obvious who will get the higher score. Anyhow, I didn't point that out to show off, but merely to prove how effective a gunner can be with a good pilot behind him.

Sure, with the skill level my pilot had, he could've probably nailed the tanks with his own rockets as well as I could with my TV missiles, but he wasn't greedy and we worked as a team. Only when I missed my TV shot (not often :P) did he swoop and finish them off with his own missiles.

A pilot can't be greedy, otherwise he is just wasting his gunner.

Teaming in the chopper or jet is awesome. Every kill gets you and your gunner 3 points instead of 2. I dunno why people would want to do anything else.
